    port20, continuing from your email...

My idea is to use the kenwood display solely for the computer, due to its better contrast/brightness, possibility of using an in-dash 1din display that doesnt look like crap, etc... I dont plan on keeping compatibility with kenwood equipment...

I hope that if I disconnect the controller from the kenwood touch panel, and plug in another controller (must research what type of panel it is and purchase a controller that is compatible) the screen will still function (i.e. wont detect that the touch panel is voided and crap out/lock out)...

About the touchpanel size and the controller, Im not completely sure that the controller itself is affected by panel size, although I could be thoroughly mistaken here...

Can you give me the exact dimensions of the screen? I have a few sources to check for panels/controller boards.

I havent been able to open the document cause this crappy computer sucks, but ill see it all asap!

if you aren't going to use the any of the kenwood features and just want a bright screen then just use somthing like this http://cgi.ebay.com/SP-716-7-MOTORIZ...QQcmdZViewItem it's a lot cheeper and the image will be way better if it is not bright enough you could alwase get a more powerfull back light inverter it's still cheeper than a kenwood

if you are only going to use the screen you could remove the kenwood touch panel and put a new USB touch panel in the kenwood screen I have been told by a kenwood tech guy that all the kenwood screens use a resistive touch panel if the controller filps out you could take a reading of the resistance of the kenwood panel on it's pins and connect resistors of the same value to the kenwood controllers pins and it would think the panel is there but not being touched or rather used

my kenwood screen is a 6.5" screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio if you could email me a list of those sources I would be very grateful port20@socal.rr.com

I was looking at several google sites... most notably one that I've ordered from in the past called ezscreen.com they seem to have a bunch of panels/controllers, but you must match the size HxW in mm with your screen, you just might be lucky enough to find one that is a fit.

Yeah, these kenwoods are really expensive, but they are damn nice! I wonder if one could swap the cd drive for a slot loader, and basically remove some stuff from it...

probably a huge risk of frying it or crippling it completely, but if it would work the (expensive) final result would surely be nicer than any of the screens out there....

I like the way you think it's worth the extra money to have a good looking screen I am the same way

here is what I think you should do find a broken Kenwood 715 815 or 915 screen they are all fully motorized 7" wide screens make sure the housing is not broken

remove the Kenwood screen touch panel and optical drive and put in your own touch screen and slot loading drive

but you will have to make a controller to open and close the screen if know how to it should not be very hard all you need is to put in some sensor switches and build a microcontroller circuit to control the motors if you are really good with electronics you could use a ADC for sensing the current of the servo motors and the screen tilt sensor so you won't need to put any new sensors in

if you want to try it let me know and I will try to find a broken screen for you I know a bit about programing PIC micro controllers and have a full DEV kit for them if you need some help

I got the Kenwood touch screen working with a USB touch screen controller

the Kenwoods are 4 wire resistive I used a 7" touch kit controller from DWW and driver version 4.0.2.1929 for win xp it has screen size adjustments it helps cal the touch panel

I hooked it up with the kenwood controller at the same time
( I didn't want to cut the board traces until I know that it works)

because of this I do have problems 4 point cal doesn't work so cal is way off and the kenwood won't work when the USB controller is hooked up to it at the same time these problems should go away when I put in a switcher tomorrow night I need to buy some parts

I think I can make the touch switcher automatic I need to do more research but it might be possable to use the cd changer input for audio and to switch the touch switcher to PC when you go to the cd changer input and then switch back to the kenwood when any other source is selected

I will post again when I know more

Which electronic componsant will you use for the switcher?

That I know in Pioneer is that when you are in changer mode, there is a 12V remote control called ASENBUS to wake the cd changer up. It is a permanent signal when in cd changer and 0V when you are not in cd changer mode.

Perhaps Kenwood do the same thing. If they do, you will have to emulate a CDC with microcontroler and will be able to switch into PC mode with the "ASENBUS" and will be able to use the audio input for PC amplification .

Plesae could you post some pics?

    Service manual for kenwood DDX-7015

I have gotten my hands on the service manual for the Kenwood DDX-7015. I can not wait for someone to crack this sucker. I've been waiting for someone to connect a car pc to a kenwood screen, and control the pc from the touch screen features of the kenwood display.

I can not upload the file, since it it +3 MB. email me with the subject line "Service manual for kenwood DDX-7015", and I will happlily reply with the document.
