Congrats man! I love it! This is the first time I ever saw the Nav input on an aftermarket stereo hacked for PC input. Great job and keep up the good work!

Can you show me a picture of the Kenwood Nav wire plug? I have a Panasonic head unit with a fat DIN style input plug on the headunit for a Panasonic NAV unit. I want to interface a CarPC via the Nav unit input on my headunit. Thanks

I saw some alpine displays that perfromed pretty well in the daylight (???)
the kenwood and alpine screens are the same brightness when there are touch screen units maybe what you saw was not a touch screen keep in mind that daylight and direct sunlight are to different things my kenwood is still better than standard Xanarc or Tview touch screen the kenwood and alpine touch screens are the same as a Xanarx with the backlight upgrade the biggest advanage is it looks better and you have all the audio features of your head unit

Look at the guide on his website. The parts he specced out are not special and could be purchased from a Digikey and probably even Radio Shack.

I got 2 new and better scan converters today the color is a bit better on the first one I tried but it was not worth the extra $190 in my opinion and it was very big in size at 7x8"

The second one was a lot better than the original scan converter and it looks just like it my friend that I got them from said that it is the same one but has a better output and he was right.
They cost a bit more than the original one witch cost me $150 with shipping. The better one is $200 plus shipping it's better than paying retail for it witch is $300
the only down side is that like the original scan converter it has been converted to run on 5v DC at 5Ah and it is an industrial unit so you need a power supply and case for it.

so you want parts do ya

well the touch controller came from Armen at DWW there $50 + S/H
the relays, diodes, and switch can be bought at any electronics parts store for about $25

I used 2 DB9 serial cables and a DB9 connector for my touch mod on my DDX 7015 they were $25 but other screens will have different wiring considerations and it may cost quite a bit.
A single Din Head Unit mine is a doubble Din may require that you put a flat factroy screen cable on top of the one that is in the Head Unit now and use it for the mod because there may not be enough room for regular wires they could jam the screen you will have to take apart the Head unit and look at it to see what you need and what will work

the case, power supply parts and colling fan cost me about $35 I got the fan because the power supply and scan converter run hot normaly and I am putting the interface in a place where I know it gets very hot in the summer time you might not need it for your install

if any body wants to hook up a Tira or IRman to a Kenwood so they don't have to mount it to the dash the REMO line on the kenwood is TTL level data driving low my Tira works fine with it but I haven't tried a IRman yet all you need to do is remove the IR eye from the Tira and hook the IR eye ground to the Nav cable ground then hook the IR eye output to the REMO line from the Nav cable the Kenwood Head Unit will pass all IR signals from it's IR eye on to the Tira I am going to use it to control my pc with my Kenwood remote so I only have one remote in the car
