    Question 7" widescreen .. which?

If you were choosing between these 2 LCDs, which do you think would be the better selection? there is over $100 difference.. the farenheit doesnt say whether it has svideo input, but i think the redant only has composite.

    7" redant widescreen - $199

    7" Farenheit widescreen - $339

Also, both advertise resolutions of 1440 x 234 .. are you really going to get this res? i would be using a ATI all-in-wonder (does matrox make a good PCI tv card?) do you think text would be readable if output from the ATI card?

i would be using my system for cobra III, so movies, mp3 visualization.. and maybe a little Quake I or IRC with my wireless usb adapter from my driveway

I want to know if anyone here has the Redant screen, or seen it in action.
If you look at the prices, it's an easy decision(I'm sure they probably use the same screen), but you have think about installation, as the redant screen is alot more bulky.

If i don't find a small cheap vga screen, i'm planning on getting the redant.

I actually ordered the redant screen about 10 days ago. If you want to see pics of it in action (and disassembled) goto:
    http://photos.yahoo.com/laxrox

and click on the redant album.

First of all the screen is made by Sharp. The housing is a little bulky but removing the screen from the upper housing and the PCB from the lower reduces much of the bulk. The screen itself actually fits beautifully (almost perfectly) into a double DIN opening (7"x4").

The PCB actually converts the NTSC input into whatever the screen needs (not sure yet). I am currently working on reverse engineering the interface into the actual screen itself to figure out if infact it could accept standard VGA RGB signals and on which pins. Also, to see if it accepts seperate HSYNC and VSYNC or needs a combined NTSC type sync signal. My hope is to improve the quality by using the seperated and more finely controllable signals from a VGA controller. The following site was my first lead into thinking this is possible and I am using it as a guide:
    http://home1.gte.net/bs/sharp2.html

Either way I am also working on an Linux-based OpenGL interface to drive the mp3/ogg, dvd, and gps navigation apps. Using a vector based enviroment made sense for this type of embedded application where larger sized fonts and scaleable objects in general could be expoited. I was actually inspired to persue this route based on the visual quality of the display when I hooked my Dreamcast up to it (see the Sonic Adventure pic in the album). But, I digress...

Please feel free to post or contact me via e-mail for more information/questions/comments/etc. I check both regularly!

    Heh heh.. Yeah, that

was pretty cool to see that on my screen, huh?
If you've been following my other thread, you'll have seen that my system crashed Bummer! Been too busy to bring the HDD indoors to work on it.

Back on topic - I, too, would like to integrate this screen into my system. I think I'm just going to give up on the GPS portion of my system. Too hard to read teh text, and still having problems with my antenna not being recognized...

I think i'm going to have to get the tape-measure out tonight

-dos4who?- have you tried changing the windows default font size? It helped when I was working with my comp on the tv.
Unless the gps software has it's own font size..
