    Thanks all,
What does TFT AMLCD mean? Can I directtly hook it up to a (car)pc ?Resolution (640x480=VGA) is not that high and price (if $1000-1500 is correct) is rather high. Brightness looks OK.
    Anyone a better alternative?

    Direct Sunlight LCD displays

    Hi All:

I found this thread while doing some research on LCD Televisions for my company.

We offer Super Bright LCD Displays. These are viewable in direct sunlight with over 2000 nits in brightness.

Before I started this company my previous company sold and serviced LED outdoor and indoor displays. My company was responsible for the installation of the San Diego Padres video screen, the Seattle Seahawks video screens and the San Antonio Spurs video screens. As well as having our products used for outdoor concert tours on Bruce Springsteen, Metalica and Shania Twain. So I am very knowledgeable about what is required to see and read in direct sunlight. 1000 nits or 1500 nits will not truly accomplish this.

Here is the web site: www.suncutterlcd.com - let me know what you think.

    Thanks

    Troy

that is wonderful, but on your site it says you work with 20"-30" lcds

I dont think that is a practical range of sizes for here. The only application i can think of would be a flip down display in the rear of a hummer.

Do you have any products in the popular 7" sizes people here use? even 8" or 10.4?

plus there is a difference between sunlight viewable at 12" & sunlight viewable at 100 yards or more......

even though most here use the term sunlight viewable were really working with pretty indirect sunlight most of the time.... still a problem, but actual direct sunlight can be a *****... 850 nits ain't gonna do direct sunlight viewable....

Correct. No use for a 20" screen in my car. I'm getting a little frustrated since I came up with the idea of a 8" or 10.4". It seems very hard to get a standard, well working, 12V sunlight readable screen.
There is too much experimenting on invertors, PSupply, Touchscreen, compatability, etc... We went to the moon some 40 years ago, and now it is hard to get a little screen which is readable in the sun.
    Can anyone inspire me?

    Let me inspire you,

We went to the moon JUST 40 years ago, and we already have a home computer in most homes in the US, and probably other countries. We have computers in cars. Heck, we have cars that run on computers the size of a notebook. We have Notebook computers that weigh less then a couple of pounds. PDA's, Cell Phones, PDA Cellphones, Cellphones with Cameras, etc. etc. etc, and you are *****ing that we went to the moon and you can't find a small screen that is sunlight viewable.

There ARE small screens viewable in the sun, just look at any OEM Sat/Nav system such as BMW, Lexus, and many others. It is just a matter of cost. If you can afford the a run of a couple hundred, or couple thousand, there are many companies that will do it for you.
