Thread: Monitor to "monitor" errors?

I mounted my PC on a piece of plywood and can have it out in 30 seconds

Regardless of what I choose, is there allways something I have to solder into my pc in order to get these auto-power on/off extra features and steering whell integration or can this always be attached to some quick-release dock-station?

Possibly it could be done to a laptop docking station, but auto power off requires soldering.

So I guess I need to be able to disconnect the pc without taking the day of from work?

Why? Most car PC installs are meant to be semi-permanent. With the level of intergration you seem to want, it'd be hard to make something easily removable.

I mean You guys arent sitting on that 7" touch screen fiddeling around when windows crashes down on You right??

I've installed and fixed Windows on far poorer screens (not as small, but harder to read). You could always grab your desktop monitor if you really need a bigger monitor for diagnostics.

Ok, I want to have that kind of start function since my current oem-stereo starts automatically (at muted volume) with the ignition. I guess this isnt a good idea at tempretures below freezing point when I install a pc. Therefor I would like to have it off untill I press the power switch.

Anyway, can this feature be made by a skilled car-stereo-electrician (remote switch connected to the docking station) to any docking station or is there specific types of laptops that it is impossible so that it has to be connected to the actual laptop itself?
I´m asking because I would like to have the laptop fairly removable sometimes and leave the docking in the car with all the wires and stuff still connected to the dock.

You should probably investigate the pin out on the dock port on your laptop to see if it even has a power on circuit there. Other options might be WOL (wake on Lan) or WOR (wake on ring). I'm pretty sure my old hunk of junk has WOR.

If all else fails, you could install a 1/8" mic plug on your laptop that goes to the power switch. That way you would 1.) dock 2.) plug in power switch. That's still a fairly easy solution and no one would even notice to MOD to the laptop.

And those, wake on lan/ring, how do I activate these sensors?
