Touchscreen of XENARC disables (strange story)

    OK, here's a strange one.

My Xenarc 700TSV has worked flawlessly for 2 months now.

Today I installed my rearview camera, taking advantage of the autosense switching to AV/2.

For some %$$#%$! odd reason, if I switch my camera ON, (switches video to AV2 automatically) and then switch it off (goes back to PC VGA) the Touchscreen no longer works. It happens 4 out of 5 times. (20% of the time it remain working).

Once it disables, the only solution is to unplug the SB cable and replug, and then TS works again. Or alternatively, disable/enable the driver from device manager (did it through VNC remotely of course).

The 12V that comes out of the OPUS to the camera is not even running alongside the Xenarc's TS USB cable, so interference I don't think has anything to do with this.

Any ideas? I'm clueless here, and really disappointed that I can't use my new camera properly.

sounds like it could be a power issue relating to a few things

    1) under powered usb hub (TS controller)
    2) under powered screen

    could be a driver

Yeah, I know that sticky by heart, no information there to help me solve this one.

I have both the Xenarc and the Camera connected to the OPUS-150, and theya re on the same power bus. I don't think this can draw too much power off that bus, since these are low powered devices. I have a 2 amp fuse on each line and they have not blown.

But my instincts tell me the fact that I am drawing power from the same line is somehow killing the touchscreen every time I turn the camera on. The camera power line goes through a relay, dont know if this could have anything to do with it.

I don't know how the TS controller is powered, but it could be that it is switched off when switching to video (so you don't tap on things you don't see).

If that's the case, windows tends to get confused if you don't give it enough time between unplugging and re-plugging a usb-device. I even heve the issue with my microsoft optical mouse at home...

Check if you can change the way the controller is powered (by usb instead of coming from the xenarc's internal ps).

    Just an idea...

I've had some poking around with the controller, I had one go bad and was testing it like crazy. The controller seems to be completely standalone from the screen, but its not. The old versions, you could plug only the USB in to any computer and it would detect the touchscreen whether the screen was powered or not. The new ones need to have the screen powered up AND must have a VGA signal being sent to be detected. This leads me to believe the power either comes from or is triggered by the presence of a VGA signal. So this could be your problem, the controller is not powering back up after switching inputs.

    Call Xenarc!

    Vinister, interesting info.

Well, in my case, the presence of the VGA signal is *always* there. In other words, when I turn the camera ON, the Xenarc will autosense and switch to Video2 (AV2), and the VGA signal from the computer remains active on the VGA cable etc. So can't quite relate to that theory in my case.

Another interesting piece of information: if I use the Xenarc's remote control to switch from VGA to AV2, and then back to VGA, TS is still working -- note that the Camera is not switched ON by me during that test.

This leads me to believe that this has more to do with power draw, than anything else.

My next test will be to power the Camera using a 12V transformer, and see if this affects the TS when switching. Will post results.

OK, I have an update, getting closer but need help from electric engineers out there.

According to my troubleshooting the issue is directly related to the fact that I am using a RELAY in the circuit. Basically, I put a relay with the intent of applying power from the OPUS 150, and tricgger the circuitry ON via a flipswitch or reverse light.

I tried several things, and came to the conclusion that the mere presence of the RELAY itself is what causes the issue (presumably a power issue).

Any ideas why the relay could be screwing things up for me here? I used a 30W Radioshack Relay ( Part Number 275-226 ). I think I read somewhere that in some crcumstances you need an addition of a diode to the circuitry to avoid relay 'kickbacks' or something like that. Could this be the problem? Expert help please?

    Thanks!
