Lightbulb Do You Think This Will Work ?

Hey guys, i have a 7" wide lcd. It has like RCA In and has a TV Tuner built into it. Works great, but again it's not a VGA monitor.

butttttttt. I was just searching online with the part numbers that i got off the controler board and screen. And came to know that the screen has RGB thing, something like the PSX screen. I mean i'm no techy but i just thought that if you can connect a PSX screen via the RGB pin outs maybe i can do something similar with this screen.

These are the links to the specs.

    Dot Format (HxV • dots)
    1440 x 234

    Input Signal System
    Dual

    Input Video Signal
    R.G.B.

And if i have this card, do you think i can try the psx hack on this lcd using this card ? I'm going 2 confirm which card is installed in the lcd housing when i get home. What do you guys think ?

    You've answered your own question.....see the 1440 X 234 ?
Even if you were able to cobble together an rgb input it will still look like complete ****.
Do yourself a huge favor and just buy a xenarc or a lilli, you'll thank yourself later.

The thing is that i'm trying 2 put something 2gether piece by piece, i'm leaving things to buy for last. Cause i just want to try to do things and make use of the stuff i already have. If i just can't do it, i'll go ahead and buy the stuff.

But it's just alot of fun doing things yourself. Even the laptop i'll get will have a new case, wont stay in the stock casing. Hope you guys understand.

So is there a way i can try the VGA thing on this lcd ? 2 save something 4 now, but more to do it by hand.

    Thanks,
    Peace,

I think you're beating your head against a rather pointless wall. Everyone so far in this thread has effectively told you what you are envisioning is a bad idea that will render poor results EVEN IF you spend tens, if not hundreds of hours, getting the thing working - and the clincher in all of this is that there's other products that will give you better results with more flexibility out there that you're dismissing!

It's one thing if you want to take on a project... But do something that won't be a poor use of your time, and everyone elses'.

To upgrade from composite (S-Video is what you have or going to buy) is possible IF YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY.
Now headup to earthLCD dot com and ask them to custom build you one. Which will cost you and arm and a leg and maybe some fingers on the other hand too.
Or if you are lucky, the screen you have/or buying is the same as the one Armen has at digitalww, you can buy the kit from him and upgrade it.

So, in short, what you are trying to do is not cost effective and could be impossible.

Why do you even need a "In-Dash DVD/MP3/VCD 7" LCD thing" if your gonna have a computer. Just a Lilliput or Xenarc and a slot load in your dash and you have all those things already.

As has already been said, the screen itself just doesn't have the resolution... the actual resolution is 480x234 specified in the way normal monitors are, there is no way a screen with that low of a resolution could even possibly display something like 800x600 resolution clearly.

you would have to literally remove the existing LCD and replace the "guts" with those of a VGA LCD, and whether or not that's possible for your in-dash unit would be something you'd have to figure out by opening it up and doing lots of measuring... chances are it would either not fit, or would involve a TON of custom fabrication to get it in there. it also wouldn't be easy, and you'd run the risk of ruining the VGA screen in the process. a whole lot of work in the end, and really not worth it, IMO.

if you are determined to get a LCD/DVD/CD/VCD combo, then you're probably going to be stuck with crappy resolution, so you'll either have to rethink that, or live with it.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:
