What's the best in-dash LCD screen available at the moment?

I've been reading this forum for some time and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a clean winner here. Most every screen someone talks about has folk that seem to hate them as well.

The ones available on Ebay at the moment are:
    VMI70 7 -Y¡ (around $380)
    Lilliput ($480)
    TSP716 ($325)

ANd of course there is all the various monitors available on the various online sites.

    Thanks in advance

Reference/search one of the 100's of threads with the same exact question you just asked. You will see all the arguments in there, without the need for everyone to repeat it in this thread.

I'm sure you are looking for a 'clear winner', here's the answer:

    1. Those with Lilliputs will tell you those are the best.
    2. Those with Xenarcs will tell you those are the best.

Having had 2 Xenarcs, I think they are the best.

And now, I direct you to the FAQ Emporium, specifically the Search thread located there.

Part of this request was for opinions, which change over time.
Also, special deals play into 'best' and 2 year old 20% off specials probably aren't in effect.

So, my best bet, to avoid being spoonfed, would be to buy each unit available and decide myself? (and of course not share my opinion so as not to spoonfeed any other members)

Well, here is what I will tell you,

There is no clear cut winner. Plain and simple. Also, your original request says nothing about price being a factor.

Once again, there is no clear cut winner. If you read the threads, you will see that some people have problems, others don't. Some people like something, others don't. How is someone supposed to figure price into it, when no one knows what your budget is. Perhaps you have less money then I do, so telling you that X brand is the best means nothing if X is out of your budget by a couple hundred bucks. Also, my opinion about Y might mean very little, since Y was the only screen I could afford, is the only screen I have experience with, and therefore is perfectly adequate for me, yet it is not adequate for you, since a "better" screen can be had for just hundred dollars more, which you can afford.

Do you now see how answering a question like that is just plain impossible.

Even more disturbing, is the fact that it is asked time and time again. If you couldn't get a clear winner from those posts, how do you expect to get one now?

My Advice, buy the most expensive one you can afford. Usually, but not always, you get what you pay for.

If you can afford to go that route, it's the best way to get hands-on opinions. I wouldn't expect anyone that's not a dealer to be able to afford that, so it's pretty unrealistic.
However, you can read what people have said about the units in other threads instead of starting another thread to get the same opinions rehashed. That way when a newbie searchs for BEST IN-DASH LCD, they're not going to have one useless thread (like this one) to weed through to get to some useful information.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I have both the Lilliput and the Xenarc.

The Xenarc is much better in the following ways.
The display is clearer, no slight ghosting like the Lilliput.
    Brighter.
Has only locked up once in the 9 months I’ve owned it, the Lilliput locked up a few times a week.
The back light brightness is adjustable.
The cables and build quality are much better
Runs directly off 12v from car, no adapter.

The only thing I don’t like about the Xenrac is I have one that resets the brightness to 33 about once a week(fixed in newer units) and mine didn’t come with a remote(some models do)

I got my Xenarc off ebay with one stuck on blue pixel for $260.

    I hope this helps.
