    7" transflective screen

Posting to gauge interest, but certainly not looking to getting anyones hopes up.

I'm working on putting together a complete LCD kit that would have a 7" VGA widescreen transflective display, with AR coated resistive touchscreen. It would be the panel, inverter, OSD and driver board. However, no casing.

Looking at a price around $675 or possibly less.

Though I had looked into having a brighter backlight made, it would seem the better solution is to use AR coatings to eliminate indirect sunlight in the cabin and adding transflection for direct sunlight when it hits the display.

I haven't recieved a test display YET, so this could just end up sucking. But I'll have to wait and see.

So if anyone would be interested in something like this, please speak up.

Sounds pretty nice. I'd be interested if I didn't already have one. I think transflective is definately the way to go, and that's a very reasonable price w/ touchscreen (assuming quality doesn't suck )

The price would have to be less than $500 before I would consider something like this. I'm happy with my regular screen for the most part. I hope you go through with it though. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

That does seem reasonable. Resolution? I'm really looking for an 8.4" 4:3 ratio...but...can't find anything < $1000...

Resolution on the 7" would be the typical 800x480. That may change however as I'm still undecided on a module that has the appropriate viewing angles/contrast ratio.

I would imagine having a kit put together for a 8.4" wouldn't be much of an issue, I'll see about looking into this as a possibility also.

I'll make sure and post whenever I have new information. I have yet to see any photos of transflective displays from the few members here that have them. So hopefully the results will be what I'm looking for because I'm tired of the poor options we have as far as LCD displays for automotive use.

Just a quick update for those that might be interested..

I did some research on an 8.4".. With inverter, LCD transflective panel, OSD, driver board, resistive touch screen with dual Anti-reflective coatings looking at a price around $830.. Waiting on specs for the 8.4"

I'm still trying to get the price hacked down on that 8.4" some (as well as the 7"), but can't make any promises if I do end up getting this put together.

I'm satisfied with the specs on the 7", adequate viewing angle and brightness/contrast rating..

Most likely will order a sample unit in the next few weeks..

will post more info at a later time..

If you can get a 7" with good spec then I'm your man..

One thing you might want to search for is a controller that properly reports it's 800x480 specs to the host via plug-n-play.

Either that, or a 7" screen that natively supports the 848x480resolution that shows up in all drivers. Has anyone ever seen a screen that uses that resolution anyway?
