Why are there no good in-dash touch screens?

My original plan was to hack up a 7" lilliput, but I don't want to do that anymore. I want either a motorized, or stationary touch screen that slips into my double din space. The motorized ones that I have seen look ugly and cheap, and no one even makes a non-motorized one. I don't understand why no one makes a good one?

I am in the same boat as you are... I have everything execpt for my screen, I have found some screens that will slip right in my double din, but they never have USB input...

I have thought about ditching the touchscreen idea anyway and just using my powermate and wireless keyboard and mouse for my input...but the cool factor of the touchscreen is important... and to be honest much easier to deal with than getting a keyboard out while driving.

I need a good screen, thinking about feabricating one myself for my car but have no experience with it...who knows...

Yeah, I was thinking of ditching the touch screen too. If I remember correctly, SHARP makes a 7" motorized in-dash screen but its not touch screen. I wonder if it has VGA output?

But no.. I can't handle that. I need the touch screen. I have a coupe with a small center console, there's nowhere to put a touchpad... that means I have to fabricate something which is what I'm trying to avoid by looking for a new screen in the first place

What do you mean by good? Almost any 7 inch screen will fit in a double din, it is just a matter of installing it. There are few choices for a factory install of a monitor unless you do it yourself. Some examples are in the MP3Car store, for the G35 and the WRX.

What do you mean by USB Input? No monitor has a USB Input. Video is never carried on USB to a screen.

You mean input, correct? Well, there probably aren't any, and I HIGHLY doubt the "SHARP" unit is VGA input. Except for the Lilli and Zenarc, there are not many other VGA INPUT screens out there.

Also, I hope you all realize, that you can add a touch screen to almost any screen. All it takes is an appropriately sizes touchpanel and controller.

I've never fabbed anything in my life. I don't have any experience with tools or materials. I don't know how to "install" a 7" TS LCD to my dash. I don't own a G35 or a WRX either

    Yes, I meant VGA input.

I mean for touchscreen purposes... I can find 6.5" screens that are touchscreens, but they only manipulate the built in radio, or cd player, or dvd, whatever it has... but no USB for my mac mini.(for touchscreen)

    Yes, I meant VGA input.

Well, then your option is paying someone to fab it for you. The truth is that not every double din area is exactly the same, and the mouting holes in every double din is different. For whatever reason, the G35 and the WRX have enough of a following to have someone develop a drop in kit, but not every car is supported because of the lack of demand for a carputer touch screen in your, and, and most other cars.

You are joking, right. Have you been here http://www.mp3car.com/store/index.php?cPath=25. THey have 11 screens listed, 10 with USB Touchscreens.

Armen has 12 choices, I believe all with USB touchscreens, and even a "bare bones" unit that is not installed in any case. http://www.digitalww.com/b3.htm

What is soo hard to find?

This entire thread has me wondering where the hell you people are looking.

Digital WorldWide has in-dash VGA-input touchscreens that are both motorized or non-motorized.
    No fabrication necessary whatsoever.

There's one model in the mp3car.com store as well. Other suppliers have additional models....
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
