They both are pretty much horrible as far as glare is concerned.
The touchscreen overlay is the cause of it, I think.
Hello All,
I have been reading up as much as possible to familiarize myself with carputers before I build one. I think I have my hardware pretty much picked out, but I have a question regarding the screen. I plan to buy either a liliput 619 or Xenarc 700tsv. The screen will be mounted in a retractable housing (I am automating my map pocket on my Mazda 6) that is located on the dash just below my rear view mirror. I know this area will have glare issues during the day and was curious if one of the above mentioned screens handles glare better then the other? I did a search and read through a bunch of posts, but did not find any specifics to my question. Also as I suspect both screens will have about the same issue, is there a glare reduction coating or screen I can add to help? Are there any other 7" Touchscreens I should consider?
Also I see the Liliput is much cheaper then the Xenarc screen. I believe it is due to it being a 4 wire touchscreen rather then a 5 wire one. Is there a considerable performance difference betwen display and operation that justifies the higher cost of the Xenarc?
Once I pick my screen then I can go about automating my Dash Pocket to work with whatever I end up buying. I intend to make the mechanism allow me to stop the motion anywhere during its intended travel. This way should glare be a big isssue I can tilt the screen in or out to see if that helps any. I do automation and robotics for a living so hopefully if I can get everything to fit, it should not be a problem with the automation.
Best regards,
Marc Webster

I so agree the touchscreen is the biggest problem with glare and brightness issues. I actually broke a touch panel by screwing it to tight in place and used my carpc for a week without it, and man it looked so nice without it... made me even think about not putting another one back in place. All in all, I ordered another touchpanel and this one is quite a bit more transparent than my old one, so it looks a hell of a lot better despite of the glare.
BTW, as far as brightness is concerned both Xenarc and Liliput are pretty much the same (I've had both), the xenarc is definitely of more quality, but not sure that's worth the extra $$$.
