Car voltage readout on char LCD anyone?

I am trying to find a way to monitor my battery voltage on a character LCD mounted on the dash which will also show track/title etc. I have 'd like mad and found a few PIC based annswers which seem like a lot of work, I use MBM on another PC to track fan speeds and voltages etc, can anybody think of a way to use that to show my battery condition?

Just a thought, perhaps the fan speed monitors could be used in some way.... (fan connected to car 12v, speed changes according to voltage..)

You will need a digital voltmeter circuit and a microcontroller that reads the voltage and sends it to LCD. So there will not be much simpler solution. Only if you find a ready made one.
