Resistive Touch Screens: A small electrical current of 4-6 volts DC at less than 60 milliampsMa) is passed through the metallic-coated layers. When
pressure is applied to the surface, the separator dots allow the two charged surfaces to make contact. The
resultant signal is then sent to our controller which determines the exact point of contact and registers the
"touch" as a mouse would register a "click".

Capacitive Touch Screens: an all-glass touch screen with a transparent metallic conductive coating. An electrode pattern printed along the edges which distributes a low voltage field over the conductive layer. When a finger touches the screen and draws a minute amount of current to the point of contact, creating a voltage drop. The current flow from each corner is proportional to the distance to the touch point.
The X/Y location of the point of contact is calculated by the controller and transmitted to the computer.

well lets just put it into carputer plain english for you.

vibration plays a key role in touchscreens especially resistive ones simply because when you touch them they change the resistance (which current changes aswell) and causes fluctuations in power distribution. When you mount a touchscreen that is resistive and you get lots of vibration then it is randomly making contact causing a spike in current. They are less reliable because of this however cheaper to manufacture.

    hope that explains it.

personally i think the big reliability problem is cheap overlays on the lilliputs and people pressing them when in cars and putting too much pressure on it - because of hitting bumps and not being able to give it their fullest attention.
