Thread: Respond here if you want glare/brightness solution

all lcd's fade over time.... the backlight can be down 50% in 2 years if it's used daily for hours a day... in a car I would expect 50% degradation in like 4 years or so, but even after 1 year a 20% decrease is pretty noticable....

PLUS the touchscreen & the lcd layers probably cloud up slightly & loose clarity from the temperature extremes & the sun.....

Yeah, but mine's down to about 20% brightness after less than a year .

It does seem ridiculous to get a 400$ upgrade on a 250$ screen. But..its even worse to spend 500-1000$ on a carpc that you can barely use in the daytime. I wish people had warned more about this.

Like you said, you're already spending $500-$1000, and if you include car audio, radar detectors, etc etc etc, most people probably spend a good deal more. I think that putting 50% of the total carPC cost towards the screen (which is what you actually interface with) is reasonable... right? Like you said, it really sucks if you spend all that cash and can't even use it in sunlight.

I'm not going to buy a lilliput in the first place. I'll probably get something from AU Optronics (see the review) and upgrade it to transflective. Supposedly, they offer transflective displays from the factory, but I guess there were production problems or something... (?). I'm guessing total costs will be under $500, but I wouldn't have a huge problem if it went over.

nmbenson: what screen (w/ same screen dimensions as 7" lilli) would you suggest as teh best for the upgrade(s)?

I already have a 7" Lilliput with a Hitachi panel that I started doing a backlight upgrade on How would this affect what you are doing to them. I have no problem with doing this since like someone mentioned before I've spend money on a project that you can't see when it's daytime. If some one has seen this done and say its great then sign me up if this is going to be a group buy thing or point me in the right direction so we can start the process.

I agree, but its like printers.. you pay a bunch of money to get something, but you cant use it unless you spend almost as much to fill it every 2 weeks with ink. For me, I gots to have a functioning screen. If my upgrade doesn't turn out satisfactory, its all comming out and I'm going to a head unit again.

so you're getting this upgrade? please update us once you test it.
