Slow down guys!
We don't want to make a wild *** guess as to what films to buy. Wait until the engineers at 3M (Vikuity) actually install their product on a Lilli, measure the results in their lab, and then tell us what combination of films provide the best results for our needs.
Once we know if its a combination of 2 films or 3 films, then we can look into trying to find the best price option. I'm assuming we'll have the sheets cut to size for a 7" or 8" monitor. A group buy might be one option. Another might be having MP3Car store buy the product in quantity and then they can resell it to us.
In any case, y'all will be involved in the discussion about costs and we can agree as a group about how to make it happen.
I'd just hate to see someone go off on their own and buy films only to find out the wrong stuff was ordered.

i like that approach. I was definatly not liking the guess method, especially since we'd need to cover all glass surfaces.....3 sheets...... and guessing on the material would not be fun at $25 a sheet......and bulk of $400+......if the first buyer says it sucks....nobody else is gonna buy

aww, I woulda done "some" research before just diving in, but how bad can it be.... I mean it does say brightness enhancing
plus... I coulda had it next week,.... this way could turn out to be another one of those multi page long drawn out go nowhere type deal's.... we've seen them before
I hope not....

Turbo,
They told me that the brightness enhancing film reflects light back out the display but only light at a certain angle. So when they determine the film and install it they also need to take into account something to do with how they refract the light and what angles come into play and this effects the choice of film and how the film is installed.
I don't understand it all and my description, due to my lack of understanding, is probably not 100% accurate. But what I did learn from talking to 3M is there is a lot more to it than just buying film and pasting it on.
If you're in a hurry and want to do it on your own, I won't tell you not to. But the little I learned from speaking with the engineer at 3M leads me to believe that whatever you come up with on your own will be inferior to the final solution that they come up with. I mean...this is all they do every day.

On the timeline.... I hope to meet with 3M next week and drop off a display for them. I told my contact there that they could take their time working on it. They were really on the fence about taking this on since I am not in the business of displays. In fact, the day after the one engineer agreed to work on it, he called and said after speaking with his co-worker they would have to decline. I called and got a little assertive with the co-worker and got him to agree with the first fellow to work on it. So as it stands, we're in good shape. But I don't want to press them to hard to move quickly on it. As long as they have the option of "working it in" for us on their own schedule I don't think we'll have any problems.
I would figure we may know something by early May. Hopefully sooner. I'm in just as big a hurry as everyone else. But we're really lucky if we get the leading experts to tackle this problem for us!

Interesting. Out of curiosity, I hit ebay, one seller has 4 cases (2000) sheets of BEFII 90/50 for a little under $2000 usd
dimensions 277.8mm x352.8mm 10.93" x 13.88"

While you're at it, ask about the privacy film. 3M makes that as well. I've even seen it refered to as "Vikuiti" once before.
of course you are right daveB, theres no question that the 3m techs can test things that we can't & in being the developers of this sort of technology obviously can select the best products for the job, it's just a question of how far this will actually go... If youhave them accepting your screen that's a really good sign & worth the wait I guess...
personally I'm in a different situation than most others here, in the fact that my screen is around twice the size of the screens you guys are dealing with, not to mention completely different in it's technology & construction....
I'm also in a different situation, in the fact that my screen really is super bright already, I did upgrade the backlight already, & I'm more or less just doing this as an "icing on the cake" type deal..., particularly since I have to dissassemble my screen soon to replace the polarizers & diffusers anyway, would have liked to have something soon really....
more power to you, & good luck with the development of this..., I've got my eyes open for a solution with these films, & if I have nothing done there by the time you have some answers I'd really appreciate it if you could also enquire about larger pieces as well...
