Hidden connector inside this 8"LCD...

An SP-800 (Innovatek) 8 inch LCD arrived today. As with many of you, from ebay:

Note that there are a few strange things about this unit:

(1) Inside, on the main processor board, is a 4-pin connector labeled GND, Vss, Rx, Tx. As one might guess, this is a communication port. But, to what? A PC? Using RS-232? Only for factory programming perhaps. That would be neat if one could control the LCD (and perhaps alter settings) remotely.

(2) This is claimed to support 800x600 VGA.
{Never mind that it really only can display 600x480 correctly, as 800x600 can not fit on the screen, and is out of proportion; maybe someone knows the remedy.}

Just out of curiosity, I tried 1024x768.
This monitor recognizes a 1024x768 input, because it correctly shows "1024x768 60Hz" on the Menu screen. Despite this recognition, it _can't_ display it correctly. Divided segments, flickering screen, etc. However, each section--though out of order--still looks crisp when it's on-screen.
Can LCDs clock, phase, etc information be altered, to correctly display the 1024x768 I know it can detect? Perhaps with the hidden port

(1) the hidden port you speak of, i'm willing to bet that isnt a programming port at all, more than likely it's an addtional port for a different style of touchscreen controller

(2) are you running auto detect after switching resolutions? Should be a item in the menu

Yes, I tried that. That should alter phase and clock to optimal, but it does not seem to work with 800x600: what is displayed is still stretched. A window, instead of being square, is a long rectangle that stretches off the screen...I know the rest of the image is there, because shifting the picture--via the position menu--brings the rest into view.

Hmm, now that you mention it again...yep, I tried that already

Damn, the only other thing I could think of to try is different refresh rates, eg, start at 60 and go up, see if you can get it auto adjust correctly. Other than that sounds like something is wrong with the screen.
