    Exclamation Laptop display to VGA-connection?

    Hi there!

I have IBM 390X laptop and i have blowed it to peaces.
I´m planning to use that laptop in my car as carputer.

Only problem i have is that display(TFT) panel connection cable is too short.
Cable is flat, plastic and it haves abaut 40 pins. Connectors shape is wide D.
How can i make that cable longer?

If i can connect that panel to VGA-connector, please tell me how to do that.
Panel model is TORISAN TFT-LCM TM121SV-02L01. I know that Torisan is as same as Sanyo, but i havn´t found any information abaut pin connections by .

I have used an i have searched manually from this forum abaut 48hrs

Please help me and at least tell me, if eather style is possible

I haven't done any research on that specific IBM model, but if it has 40 pins, it probably isn't LVDS, so you'll have trouble extending it any reasonable distance. Maybe if you just need an extra foot, you can figure something out. I think someone here extended a non-LVDS ribbon a very long distance and got surprisingly decent results, but that shouldn't be considered typical.

As far as VGA, you really should search a little more on these forums... LCD's are digital, not analog, and the only reason you see vendors selling LCD's with VGA connections is because the general public has video cards with VGA outputs. The vendors actually have to make a VGA controller (not cheap to buy) which converters the analog VGA signal back to a digital signal. Your laptop's LCD will not have any capability of receiving a VGA signal, and it's probably not worth the money to get a controller (plus it would slightly degrade the picture quality).

I watched those AD-converters from some netstore and price was abaut 200$ !

Maby i need just try to make that wire longer. I just don´t know how to do that

If i found cheap LCD or TFT panel which is abaut 10-13" and have VGA input, then i have to buy one, because it´s more easier.

They are getting close now (still a couple months away from finished and polished)

All stuff is in french but with translation should be readable
Just for the fun part somewhere in the thread the guy explains how he solders some items that must be seen.

    Maybe that could help
