Hey guys and gals, I just got a 700v in the mail, have a question. This monitor says vga in on the back and connects to that with a 20 pin d shaped plug, which terminates on the other end into three RCA jacks. If I were to buy the 20 pin extension cable listed under xenarc accessories from the mp3car store for 50 bucks would that allow me to connect to my pc via 15 pin d-sub rather than rca? I know the usb touch deal would still not work, but what about the vga- I did a search and it appears to me that all the 700 series have the same internal signal ribbon.... in the pic you see how the vga in attaches, is this the same with all 700s?
ok- after some 15 cans of DR pepper and searching tawianese internet till 3am- I have found a basic pinout of the vga connector board. Going to radio shack here in a few- I'm hacking this piece of ****. I really want to just order the extension cable I linked to above, plug it in and call it good, but I am not about to throw away 50 some bucks shipped if it does not work... radioshack parts list: 16.95. Rusty soldering skills, check. I'm going in.
Don't bother. you bought the wrong montor: http://www.xenarc.com/product/index-monitor.html
The V is RCA only. it wont have the VGA bits on the controller. The pinout for the xenarcs is in a thread somehwere on the forum btw.
Yeah- hence the POS reference in my other post. I'm still going to "tinker" with it- if nothing else I can always just buy a new one and keep this for the passenger side or something, runnin off rca. I swear have seen someone on mp3car hack a 700v for vga, anyone can put me in touch with that person?Originally Posted by Scouse Monkey
take a photo of the controller and I will tell you if I think it can be hacked.
Thanks for helping ScouseMonkey- you're the man. heres a scan of my monitors guts. I attempted to solder up some leads to it and got 5 of 13 on then it got "hairy" and I pussied out for now- I've got to get stranded wire- I'm using 24 guage solid copper and it don't stick for ****. I also posted the pdf I found with the pinout. Note the pdf is showing a vga monitor with the touchscreen- I was HOPING to just solder the wires to the appropriate spots and it would sense the vga as well. Once I get some different wire I'll try it if we think it's worth a shot.
right well bad news I am afraid. I am pretty sure that the missing IC below the main pixelworks IC is part of the VGA input stuff.
i dotn want to take on of my new screens apart just now but I am sure they were populated on the controller I sent to jcdillin.
The blanks on the small connector board are for the TS to hok up to with a small power reg (missing) although you can add a TS easily by connecting a TS controller up to the relevant pins on the connector or to it's own usb cable - but that is useless without VGA.
yeah- I noticed alot of "real estate" on the pcb without anything there... anyway thanks again. I'm going to use it on composite hookup and extra big fonts for the immediate future while I save for the real deal.
