    Blown CCFL Inverter

The sp-719 (Super, Avatar) Touchscreen was in my 2005 Avalanche when the screen started to flicker, and then went out.

I opened it up to see if I could diagnose the problem and found the CCFL inverter part of the board, specifically the step-up transformer, was burned.

I did find this thread ( SUPER LCD display problems ) where someone replaced the inverter board. I was wondering if the specs for the transformer are known, or where I could pick up a compatible inverter board.

Pic of the blown part, you can see the burned pins and the loose coil. Fuse is not blown, caps are good too.

I think I found a compatible transformer. It is the same size, same number of pins and about the right lamp voltage. Part EFD-20

I wouldnt bother though, if it blew once it'll probably blow again, I honestly would go with a external inverter like greenman did. Your going to want to try to power the new inverter with the previous power lines so it will shut off the backlight when the screen goes into standby.

down at the bottom, the overrun specials, I would try one of those. They look to be about the right voltage.

The 8M124P83 looks like it might work, thanks for the link, the minimum ignition voltage and recommeded wattage is a bit low at 1050Vrms and 6W. It is 6W as the LM64P831 that the board is made for is typ. 6W.

For 3$ I'll probably give it a try, as it won't hurt anything, it might just mean the screen is a bit dimmer than I like.

yeah thats the main thing being $3, if not I would go with JKL inverter, I picked one up from mouser for $15 and it works wonderfully with the hitachi screen.

Thanks for your suggestions, it is cheaper and easier to get the board than the transformer. Mouser and Digikey don't carry a similar step-up for the one that burned out.

I'll get the $3 one, and if that isn't bright enough than I'll try the JKL inverter 560-BXA-12617C-6M as that looks exactly right and is much smaller than the hacksawed off piece.

Once I get the pieces in, probably 1-2 weeks, I'll let everyone know how it worked.

I don't see any visual damage to the other boards... Mine went out when I was driving and everything was on and working. Could it be from the inverter over heating? I found the same inverter model number used on 7" screens while searching the web... I have an 8" (but that's another story) Anyway, I was wondering if it would be worth mounting a heat-sink & fan on the the inverter once I can get it up again (still wondering to another subject...) but dose anyone think their's something we could do to keep our inverters from exploding? ( whatever!)

I see the burnt step up transformter, but where is the fuse?

I have an invertor board that blew a capacitor between two voltage regulators. I get zero volts to the cap so I was wondering what a fuse on an invertor may look like as nohting on the board looks like a fuse or surface mount fuse to me.
