in other words, use the connection from your computer (the picture I posted...the connector is called a "molex connector"..) and yes, it should be ok to make a long wire from your power supply to the lcd.

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)

Wow, you guys kinda opened my eyes I looked at my controller spec sheet ( http://www.zlcd.com/downloads/NL6448AC2006.PDF ) says the supply votage should be 4.75v - 5.0v @ max 1A. I've always used 12v regulated and unregulated (from car). Hmmmm...

I wonder if I've killing it?????????????

or, we could make a circuit to filter the 12v from car as the sproggy-supplies does

    checkout sproggy.com

but when you are at it tearing all the interiors off the car when hiding the signal cable, you might aswell throw in a cable for +12 regulated, 2.5 square millimetres will do, huh?
oh, and use car chassis as ground.

I take that all back. I found the document that was sent to me from earthlcd.com with the LCD. It does infact use +12vcd.

    I attached the document.

even more reason to use the molex connector...got an easy connection to 5v there...don't listen to the guys telling you to go from the cigarette lighter..ESPECIALLY if it's rated at 5v..

Buddy .. ur powering your LCD through the controller and the controller is powered with 12vdc... so the 5vdc line is regulated on the controller but the 12volt line goes to you backlite ... through the inverter.

so just FYI DONT power the controller with unregulated 12vdc supply..

a 7812 chip can cost sell that a box of tissue paper but the controller will cost you more than 10grms of gold...

so PLEASE dont power it directly make a circuit from the 7812 chip its reted at 1amp or use LM1084-5 (national) its rated at 5amps

You will be happier down the line .. just a advise you dont like it im sorry for you.
