180 deg. viewing angle sunlight viewable lcd's

I may be interested in this, the pentium M mobo setup is particularly nice since I have extra pentium M processors laying around

Only thing holding me back is a lack of information, and size restraints. I have a double DIN area to mount the screen, maybe it could be mounted in portrait mode, and the bottom few inches of the screen could be behind the dash, while the frontend would only fill the resolution area that was visible inside the double DIN opening.

I'll need more info before I can say yes or no. Between this and the possibility of mp3car offering transreflective upgraded lilli's, sunlight readability may soon be doable

I'll have more details when I get these running.... there are several versions of these screens & I want to see just how good these really are in the sun.... the 12.1 I've been testing with so far is really good..... I don't want to really push anyone in this direction until I can see the actual side by side comparison with an average liliput & the 10.4 I have....

the first one I got, I'm moddifying for a high bright upgrade..... theres just nothing like a super bright screen

.... it's one thing to be able to see it, it's another to be able to see it really bright..

I know these screens are great with great specs, but I want to make sure there worth the investment for others to use them as-is.... you have to realize that anything less than a true high brite screen is a compramise... including transflective & all other optical enhancements... to me a super bright screen still looks the best out of all of them...

I want to give side by side comparisons for you to make a decision as to weather it's good enough for you or not...

... & btw, the pentium m boards I have a source for have the processor soldered to the board, so you can't upgrade it...

I really like the idea of the screen, TS and Pentium M motherboard bundle. Looks like a great solution to me.
A couple Q's:
Is the resolution for the 12.1 and 10.4 the same?
What ports do the laptop boards have?
Integrated WiFi?

Looking forward to your progress on this.

both 12.1 & 10.4 are 1024X768... I'm having trouble sourcing the connectors to the motherboard for the video output lvds.... my guy is soldering the connections directly to the motherboard on the first one right now....

these motherboards are from gateway m275 tablet..... if you look on ebay there are a few different people selling them, there all around the $200 price range.... they will take a wi-fi card like a laptop, or you could use an external wi-fi adaptor....

if every board needs to go out to have the plug altered & hardwired this add's a bit of headache to this..... still do-able, but an add'l complication...

the inverters? if you mean to power the system, they will need a 19V source.... either a car adaptor with 19v out, or the better way to do this would be to use a 19v power supply like a carnetix or something.... I will look into that, that'll be cool too, as it can startup & shutdown the system, & provide the 5v needed for all usb stuff...

if you mean the inverters for the lcd, I'm getting them from the lcd supplier..

Yes, I meant the LCD inverter. Is the LCD being powered from the motherboard?

at this point I think so... I'm still waiting for the results from the motherboard

I got my controller today... connected up the screen... works fine... the viewing angles are great all around & it seems real bright...

I already begun modifing this one though, so it's not going to be good for final outdoor viewability analysis... I have the whole rear of the lcd gutted & open in the rear for add'l backlighting...

in my testing tonight I added my backlighting to this screen & found out something interesting.. average laptop screens when unpowered will pass light,IE; screen off backlight on= the screen will be bright white, but not this screen, when unpowered it is black.... this must be partly how they achieve such high contrast ratios with this screen

heres a few shots so far... the side by side to a lilliput shot is still a week or 2 away... these shots are with the rear open... if it means anything, a normal lcd with the rear opened will have a really dim image & be darker on the side oposite the backlight... this one looks really good even though its under the same conditions

this is on my "light box"... without the installed ccfl even connected... on my last screen the original ccfl did nothing when the lcd was on the lightbox.... this one though may benifit from the ccfl since it lights the screen so evenly even with the rear gutted... I have to extend the ccfl wires to try this

ok I got the results.... everything is fine with the setup.... I have everything working 100%... inverters running off the motherboard.. I got the right inverters.... got the connectors sorted this is how it's set up right now...

the cables that connect the lcd to the board is 6'... longer runs may be possible, but 6' works for me...

all the little things add up with this, from what I'm seeing now end result will probably be lcd w/controller around $640 & barebones motherboard w/lcd connected around $760.... next week I'm going to send veritasforge a motherboard to build a stainless steel case for this motherboard... If anyone does decide they want a setup, the case will be optional... we haven't even determined the final price yet for these cases, or you could always build your own...

right now as it stands I got enough of these setups for myself with maybe 1 extra screen w/controller... I don't want to get a lot of extras until I have the final sunlight side by side comparison & know that someone else is going to even want this.. all the motherboards I have now I will use... once I get the cases designed & built I can order motherboards & cases easily enough... these screens might be a little harder to get a ready supply but more should be able to order... I cleaned out there current stock
