180 deg. viewing angle sunlight viewable lcd's

I'm also pretty impressed with the way this screen reacts to added backlight.... it really takes to this better than most any other screen I've seen... without any add'l layers added to the stack & no other modifications to the lcd it retains awsome contrast & colors with added backlight... average lcd's will wash out & loose contrast... mostly because the lcd's are white in an off state & the segments have to try & block the light when on... a stronger backlight means that black looks grey.. but not this panel.... with the backlight fully cranked the blacks still look black... & all the colors still look vibrant... it also has really nice light dispersion... & doesn't need any add'l diffusion like a normal lcd would from what I'm seeing so far...

this panel is pretty resilient & well constructed... meaning it's pretty easy to dissasemble & moddify with a good chance of sucess of it still working....to get this to work with the add'l backlight I had to totally dissasemble it, even remove the glass lcd sheet itself to cut the metal frame so I could fold the ribbom cables flat open...back togeather & works like a charm.... it looks pretty sick with the extra backlighting... I may try & do a few of these with backlight upgraded.... now that's an awsome display.... don't know what that would wind up costing in the end, but it'll be pretty expensive...

I guess not too many will want to spend that much, might be close to a grand for a screen with controller or more depending on how it's backlit.., but if anyone want's the best screen available this will be it... there is nothing on the market comparible to this end result without spending over $3,000 for an aircraft screen, & I don't think I've ever even seen those with anything close to 180 deg viewing all around... which becomes a real necesity to use this in portrait mode.... which is probably the best fit for most who have any chance of even fitting this...

I'm following your thread intently! This looks like an excellent solution. I'm about to start my carpc project and a motherboard/controller/lcd solution would be very welcome. Just a thought, but do you think it would be possible to build some sort of single DIN mount for the 10" display? I'm thinking it would be cool if the display came out of the dash in portrait and could then rotate into landscape once it was tilted upright. I guess that would require 10" of clearance into the dash (not sure what kind of room I've got in my Protege5).

that sounds like a very ambishious idea... I'm sure it can be done, but like anything else, there are many different ways to do what your talking about.... to do it nice will take quite a bit of effort, research, creativity & ambishion, just to name a few of the things it'll take to pull this off nicely....

if your talking about ME building it for you.... yeah right

.... I'm so backed up in projects right now that I don't even have time to finish my own car.... I could do something like this, but would never have the time.... unless of course it was for my car

Using the latest conversion rate ....... thats $208.56 USD

It's a shame that I cant get a single other hit on google for such an item ... no 10.4 inch 1 din items are made besides this lol

Anyway, that would be the IDEAL setup for me .... 10.4 inch indash sunlight readability.

guess Ill keep on dreaming for the time being hah.

I can get a vga board with a composite input & a built in tv tuner board, but it's expensive.... comes with a remote & everything, but like $280 for the conroller

yeah, this is a nice screen to run straight off the commell's.. I recieved my test motherboard back with the first batch of three screens wired up.... it works good in the bios screen which is how it was tested, but I didn't provide the technician with a hardrive that can boot all the way to windows, which is where the high resolution/ high bit color comes into play....

when running high res/high color I've got some minor interference & slight color issues when running directly off the motherboards... I have to send them back to the tech to swap the cables out... were looking at possibaly using dvi cables now... the lvds channels & clock are real sensitive & the cable quality is very important... this time i'll send them back with a hardrive that boots all the way to windows for the final development of these cables... don't it seem like stuff like this just takes forever

I'll send it back out monday, but try to get some good sunlight pictures before I send them back.... I'll run it off the controller I have to show the final results without the cable interferance issue... hope it's sunny out tommorow...

I'll be extreme torture testing these in direct outdoor sunlight, not overcast & in a dash.... if they look readable in direct sunlight then they'll be perfect in a dash.... I have a tablet with an indoor/outdoor display for side by side comparison, & I may even be able to fire up a lilliput next to it too for comparison... I'm anxious to find out just how good they are...
