The price wonít be cheep; it will be about $599 for a 7Ē LCD sunlight readable panel with touch screen. Just to clarify, that wonít be a panel upgrade program, but rather a new panel that has been modified. All units will come with a 90 day warranty against defects.

    More details are to follow.

My question is if this upgrde can be performed on the in-dash units, namely the Xenarc 700IDT that I want so badly....
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

We have plans to sell new in dash monitors with the upgrade. These things take time and am personally working on it expeditiously, but it will still take a matter of weeks.

The problem with upgrading products that people already own is the upgrade process will take a long time, up to six weeks. That could be expedited if you where willing to accept a refurbished LCD panel instead of the one that came with your monitor. Also there are unanswered questions such as will it fit back into a given in dash monitor housing after the upgrade has been done. There are also issues with the touchscreen and retrofitting a new touchscreen controller into an existing housing where it might not fit.

The first batch will be Lilliputs. It remains to be seen if they will fit back in to their housings or not in which case they will be sold as open frame LCDs.

Also, the branding on the outside of the monitor doesnít matter that much. All of them are using LCD panels from major companies, like Hitachi, Panasonic or AU. All they do is make a controller board for it and a plastic housing. That said I find the Lilliput controller boards to be of higher quality so thatís why there were chosen. The Lillput controllers are also more concise (less complex = more reliable), they include the backlight inverter, VGA controller, and touchscreen all on one board, rather then Xenarc who uses three PCB boards for those same factions with double sided tape to hold everything together.

lilliputs aren't really worse than the xenarcs, they seem to be more problematic here because they are also much more widely used... if all other things are equal, if liliputs average 3:1 then of couse the lillis will look like they have 3 times as many problems....

add to that the fact that, because the lillis are cheaper, there much more likely to be taken apart & screwed with, making them seem even more problematic.... the guys that go out & buy the most expensive screen will either avoid chopping it up, or do so a bit more carefully... I don't think lilli's deserve there bad rep...
