I have a Xenarc 700TR 7" flip down, I used it for a trip across country with a car pc. I had no problems however I decided to remove it from my car and it has been in a closet for several months. I recently decided to remove the flip down mount and hook the screen up to my home theater pc making it so i dont need to turn on my projector in order to use the pc.
Video 1 and 2 (composite) work fine but the VGA is totaly washed out. I tried using the same vga cables I used with it in the car and no difference. I checked the VGA connector going to the board on the lcd and it appears to be fine. Any ideas what it could be? I have tried about 3-4 different VGA cables all have the same result. Thanx in advance for any and all help.
so i guess no one has ever had this problem with a xenark lcd before
What's 'totally washed out' mean? Can you see an image or is it just all white all the time no matter what?
looks like the contrast has been turned way up and you can faintly see the image. Thanks for the response.
Best I could figure is the brightness/contrast controls are way off. I assume you've already tried those, but you didn't say you had.
Other than that, bad controller board maybe? It definitely sounds like something in the screen itself
I've had 6 of these POS screens go through my hands, every one of them has made at least one trip back to Xenarc to have issues fixed.
Broken hinges, loose casings, hinge so loose the screen just swings all over the place, replaced circuit boards, glitchy power circuits that need to warm up before they work, on and on and on.
But, I have neer seen your exact issue. If you can open the screen, I'd be headed to the ribon cable to make sure its in all the way on both ends. Failing that, send it back to Xenarc and let them deal with it.
These screens are so bad I sent a couple back with "KEEP THEM" written all over the box. They still sent them back to me, and I've since gutted them for the LCD, which is the only good peice on them.
BTW my customers are rich yuppies and old ppl with RV's, they are not tough on their gear. I've replaced every 700TR with a different screen (out of my own pocket of course), and am not having problems anymore. I wish there was some kind of grading when things come from overseas, so that if enough of them break the product is blacklisted and they just throw them into the ocean right off the damn barge, save our country from all the wasted time, money, and resources.
The thing is i never had to really mess with the screen control options in the past so i had kinda forgotten about them. If i remember correctly the only way i could pull up the options was with the remote. The remote only appears to switch video sources or power off and on the unit. The other bottons dont appear to work same thing goes with the ones on the lcd itsself only power and source work.
