Please help an ignorant new guy out!!

ok guys, I have been reading this forum for a little while now and I have finally decided to register and post. I recently bought a 10.4" LCD off of ebay and I am now having a hard time finding out what to do next. I want to use it to play DVDs or hook up a playstation. I put the link of the auction at the bottom of this post. Also, on the LCD itself, there looks to be 2 inputs that I might be able to plug a video source and power source into..if so, can you guys help me find what I will need to get it to work. It looks to me that the lcd is froma laptop, but I may br wrong. (it has IBM on the back of it, I can get the P/N if needed)

    Thanks

you're going to need a controller for the LCD, look at www.earthlcd.com for a controller that will support your lcd.

If you need help, email them and they can probably help you

    cool, thanks for the help.

This will work for both raw LCDs and laptop screens? Or are those the same things?

if by raw LCD you mean any LCD that doesnt have a VGA/RCA/or other recognizable input, then yes, you'll need a controller for it to work with your PC

So, if your LCD does happen to have a VGA input, then you don't need a controller? Please excuse me if I'm beating a dead horse here... this is all new to me!

yea. if it has a VGA input there should be no need for a controller.

The controller (as I understand it) is only for converting the Analog signal from your PC (VGA) into a digital signal that the LCD can understand.

Don't feel bad about asking questions, it's much better to ask the questions and figure out the answers. Stops you from screwing yourself over when you make a big mistake.

i am sorry, but what exactly does a VGA input look like? I know what the RCA one is, but I am not familiar with the VGA...well what it looks like at least. There are absolutely no wires coming off off the screen, but there are 2 small black female plugs on the bottom corner of it. I am guessing I will need to controller, but like you said, I don't want to make any stupid mistakes

Also, I am wanting an RCA input, so that I may hook a playstation up to it, like I mentioned earlier....

VGA input is what is on your video card/most monitors. For RCA, you will probably need to have a video in-capable video card..

VGA is a standard monitor cable.

if you post the P/N ID number on the LCD people on the board can help you find a proper controller.
