    Lightbulb LED Backlight for LCD

I hope this is not a repost. I've just received this in a newsletter so I think it is pretty fresh.

This may be a nice alternative to fluorescent backlights although I do not know how bright they will be in a side by side comparison.

This is a cut and paste from their newsletter:
    http://www.electronicproducts.com/Sh...2.aug2006.html

    7-in. LED backlight
    delivers more with less

Molded light guide delivers up to 8,000 nits using fewer LEDs

Intended for use in portable media players, automotive GPS and DVD systems, and other daylight-readable devices, a white LED backlight assembly for 7-in. TFT LCDs can deliver from 3,500 to 8,000 nits of brightness using fewer LEDs than previously required.

The RoHS-compliant assemblies are currently available with white LEDs, and an RGB version is under final development. (From approx $7 ea/large qty—available now.)

    Agreed.
$7 each in quantity. If this would work in the standard-issue screens (Xenarc & Lilliput), this seems to be a better value upgrade than the transflective upgrade the store is going to offer.
    Maybe they could offer both?

I'm cusious to see how this would compare to the transflective upgrade... This is a similar project to what a couple forum members were working on...
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Oh man .... this is COOLLLLLLLLLLL and much much cheaper than the transflective upgrade.
The really great part is those who already have an "unreadable" screen to beable to upgrade without buying a whole new panel ...

I'm in...sign me up, up, up!

My question is whether a typical screen can continue to provide good contrast when the backlight is upgraded...wouldn't quadrupling the light output mean that everything would be washed out?

Yes, yes, I know, I'll search and try to answer my own question...hold your derogatory comments for now, DarquePervert. But you're right about one thing...this promises to be MUCH cheaper than the transflective upgrade.

Please do not mention Group Buy, they are forbidden on this website, and will get the thread closed.
