i never knew that playing a movie while driving was illegal. is that a NY thing or does it apply to CA too?
project in the works....no worklog but i will post a completed thread.
pretty much EVERYWHERE...
MY NEWEST INSTALL:modded infiniti fx with big screen
first windows carpc install........my liquid cooled LVDS screen :D
I think CA has some of the most strict laws regarding moving images on a screen in the driver's field of view.
Actually in CA, it is illegal to just have an "installed" computer in the front seats. Even if the screen is pointing directly at the passenger, still a crime.
So I guess if you only show the GPS screen, or the backup camera, then you are ok. But if the cops are sticklers, they could theoretically even get you for the spinning flash logos in RoadRunner.Originally Posted by California AB-301
I've heard that they really only tack it on to another charge. Like they won't actually pull you over for it, but if they pull you over, and your screen is going, then you'll get a ticket for that too.

Why don't you just not drive around with a video playing? Many newer vehicles are coming from the factory with screens installed for GPS and onstar functions. The Police would probably just assume its one of those. Unless of course you ARE watching a video while driving which is unsafe and you shouldn't. Just my worthless $0.02.

Do what I do and don't give a **** about the cops. they're gonna bother you one way or another. if not for the screen playing by the driver, then for the tint, etc.
I have no tint on my scion and use a 12" tablet screen for navigation, music, watching obscene things, etc ;] i just dont give a flying ****. i see no reason in spending a few hundred in preventing something that is likely to occur - in time. may as well save that $ to pay off the ticket.
my plan is, if a cops sees my tablet on and pulls me over, im going to hold the power button and turn it off. if he says that he saw it on, i'll tell him it may have been a glare or something. why the hell would i do something stupid like drive with a video playing? ;]
