1. make sure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer of the video card. / Also try different refresh rates.
2. The smaller LCDs are more supcepticle to picture instability (in my experience) so it will be more noticeable
Hi, I bought a SFF computer at a local computer store for around $250. It has a 2ghz celeron and 1gb ddr ram. I noticed that when the computer is running if I look closely on the screen (about 6" from it) at any resolution it appears like its "dancing." I was testing it on a 21" Sun Microsystems monitor (Not sure which model) with a VGA Input. I get no such problem with any other computer. And I also get the problem on a Dell 17" monitor. I do not get this issure during post or in the BIOS, but it starts as soon as the Windows XP boot logo appears on screen.
Its not a big deal, but If i use this as a car pc, I don't want it to look like crap. It has a SIS 651 video chipset that uses 64mb of the system ram.
My question is two parts:
1.) How can i tell if this is a software or hardware issue?
2.) If i use a 7" 800*480 (this pc easily supports it) LCD would it be easily noticable on the LCD?

Well i tried the change the refresh rate but it only supports 60hz at 800*480. Other resolutions didnt make a noticable differnce either. The drivers are the most current.
I wish i could capture an image of the problem, its really hard to describe. One of my friends with 20/40 vision says he can only barely see it from a foot away. I guess I'll just have to test it on an lcd when i buy one.
I tested it by playing the matrix on dvd, and it didnt appear noticable during that, oh well.
Thansk for the suggestiosn guys.
You say the computer store is local, so why not bring it back to them and either get a new one or at least see what they have to say. You could also ask them to demo the hardware in-store for you so you could see if the same thing is happening.
I think I'll try that. They have a dell optiplex gx520, with 512mb ddr2 and a slighly faster processor (it was less too)... i might try to trade it in.. i added a dvd rom. OH, btw with some googling i found the manufactured, but the product itself is devoid of any labels, etc. linky: http://www.littlepc.com/products_p4littlepc_401X.htm
It looks exactly like it.
Sorry its been a while, I've been extreemly busy. I took the SFF pc back and got a Dell Optiplex gx520, its still fairly small, but it was cheaper, and the best part is its 64-bit capable and has ddr2 ram. No video issues. The store was very understanding and could see the video issues as well on thier screens. Thanks for the help guys
