    Dynamix 816, not a good Idea ? - I've searched

So I've searched and found some threads on Dynamix, Most of them bad, But they were from awhile back.

    I found the Dynamix 816 on e-bay .

    8" 16:9 capable of 1600 x 1200 .

Are these screens any good. ?

I have no idea about this I am total newb to this....

so if you could just throw in your 2cents..

what were the bad threads about?

and why are you stuck on this screen in particular?

    the fact that it's an 8" screen that's 16:9?

no paticular reason to be stuck on it.

8.4" high resolouion (1600 x 1200), and says it very bright. I guess. And it looks like it wouldn't be as hard to glass it into my bezel.

not stuck on an 8". Just curious.

I have a choice between this and a liliput 619. which is in the for sale section.

Let me tell you about lcd monitors and the numbers.
I have bought and taken apart litterally dozens and dozens of monitors of all style and sizes. I can tell you for a fact that less than 10% of them listed the correct panel type and spcifications.
    For example:
I bought some 10.4" flip downs to convert to vga touch units (not the Pyle's I mentioned in a different post)
Any way, Here are the advertised specs:
Brand new 10.4" tft, 800x600 resolution, with scaling for 1154x2?? for widescreen movies.
400 nits bright, and a contrast ration of 500:1
Now I paid undr 100 each for them, so I did not expect much.
This is what I found when I cracked them open.
3 had Sharp LQ10d41 panels, 1 had an Hitachi HD26xxxxxxx and 1 had an NEC NL8060xxxxx panel.
All of these panels were made during or before 1997!
Are you kidding me??? The Sharp panels are 640x480, 70 nits and a CR of 150:1 if I remember correctly. The NEC and Hitachi's are 800x600 but far from 400 nits brigt and 500:1 CR.
All of them were used, and the Sharp units had the front frames removed to fit the bezels. The inverters were hot glued to the panels, the panels were hot glued and taped to the bezels, and they used copper tape stuck on the back of the panels to solder tab the controlllers on.

Point is, don't believe a word you read when buying any monitor designed, built or sold by the famous HK sellers. I am refering to items like Dynamix, Lilliput, Hamm, Super, Cogi, Won-Ton Soup, or whatever other label they slap on them. I have only looked at 2 Xenarcs, and they were spot on.
I know big numbers and low prices drive people to buy these things, but cavet empour. You really do get what you pay for. If you can afford it, buy a custom built lcd kit. At least you know what you are getting, and there shouldn't be any surprises.

that is funny. I laugh when I see some of these tiny monitors listed with outragous resolution claims. 1600x1200?? no way. scaled, maybe. (and that will look ****ty to say the least) But a true UXGA 8.4" panel does not exist.

At first it seemed to me that I was gettin flamed, Then I seen how I posted my comments. When I said I was a total newb @ this I wasn't lieing. I have been into car audio for a long time, 8 years or so. But I have never used, installed or even atempted to compile a list to build a carputer system.

I know how It can be dealing with newbies, so I appreciate everyting.

So for a starter like me liliput 617 7" for 150 shipped ?

as long as all the features work, no scratches, all cables, etc. yes 150 landed is a deal for a 7" Lilli. A good choice for a starter monitor. Just don't expect too much.
