Thread: VGA LCD or TFT LCD???

Depends on what you want to do and how crisp you want everything to be. In what little experience I have, my 5" composite video lcd works well enough to use winamp (with all the fonts bumped up) as well as dvds. I haven't srapped the money together yet for a gps, but we'll see what happens when i get it. The crispness is going to be extreemly superior on the vga, no questions asked. It also comes down to how much money you want to spend

I just wanna use for mp3,dvd and gps..not that crazy stuff..also don't wanna spend too much money..I'll be happy as long as I could see movie and GPS...so i guess I should go TFT LCD than..and save money..????

Lets get one thing straight... a VGA lcd is TFT aswell... dont get that 'tft' lingo mixed up. TFT is the active matrix lcd technology... it replaced older crappy STN passive matrix. If u see STN on anything... FORGET IT... its old garbage.

VGA/Video are the input signal choices. Thats what your looking into.

As far as clarity goes... VGA is better... but much much more expensive. If you get yourself a good quality Video lcd... im sure you will be satisfied with the performance. I have a 5.6" Pyle LCD, uses a Sharp brand LCD, and it does mpg,dvd,games and gps just fine! I only paid $175 for it on ebay.. that was 2yrs ago... now ive seen them as low as $178 online. Car audio installers are impressed with the performance, view characteristics of the lcd... compared to more expensive lcd's from Clarion, Alpine etc.

6.4" VGA lcd's will run u around 500-700 smackers

Some used 10.4" lcds were around on ebay for $200-250. A bit bulky for a car dash... and they are used.

Edit: PS. If u get enticed to buyign the really cheap 5.6" lcd's... the $95-129 ones... get ready to be let down. There's a reason they are so cheap... they are poor quality.

Resolution has everything to do with your pc and almost nothing to do with the lcd. LCD's will display anything.

On LCD's <7" i wouldnt recommend anything more than 640x480... text will be too small to read. I use 640x480 on my 5.6" and it works just super.

As for brands... anything that sounds like its reasonably priced for what it is. If an lcd is too cheap, i would be very suspicious. You can try hunting down buyers of that lcd on ebay and asking their opinions.

There are so many brands of lcd's, so many of them are generic/oem... its hard to point out one brand in particular. But the visiontek u found for $299 looks like a good lcd. Pyle also sells good lcd's. Mine is a Mobile Authourity... which is the same as the lcd's pyle sells (Oem). The authour of Cobra mp3 software uses the same lcd as me... just so u know.

Depends what your looking for... size?... motorized or not?...

In the same ballpark as he is, lookin for a 6.4" or maybe 7" LCD, composite video, still deciding on what screen is good, because I want to see GPS clearly.

If u want gps reeealy clear... u should go VGA.

If u want gps readable.... composite will do. You wont be setting Guiness Records for clarity, but it will work.

Pyle is decent for 6.4".... check out partsexpress.com... they have 5/5.6/6.4/6.8. You can find a better price for the lcd's elsewhere. I have seen 5.6's go for $178... so have a look around.
