From Lilliput to RNS-E (AUDI A6 1999)

For a while now i have my system running using a Lilli.

I wanted to give a factory look to my A6 Carputer. I had two options.

1. Get a double din cage and integrate the Lilli in the dash, then relocate the head unit in the glove box.

2. Get an Audi RNS-E sat nav.

Option 2 is a clean process, so I gave it a go. I will have to find a new input device, since the touch kit will be out of the picture.

The next step? Purchase the parts required.
1. RNS-E Sat nav. Found one on E-Bay in very good condition.
2. CAN BUS emulator (This is required for Audi A6 pre 2000 models). The best place to purchase it from http://www.kufatec.de/
3. Double din cage and climate control face. The colour of the RNS-E is soul black. I bought them from http://www.partsdealer.de/ , used but in excellent condition.
4. Antenna adapter and removal tools which are very easy to find.

So after two months waiting for parts, the migration process begun.

damn homie. how much did dat oem sat nav cost? i know it was definitely hella clean. yeah it sucks cos the 1998-2000 A6s have like single-1.5 din and the 01-04 got double. Im getting prolly a 1999. If im lucky maybe a 2001 4.2L. So now, can u post screens of ur oem screen displaying your carputer?

If you can get the 2001, that one has CAN and the RNS-E is much easier to retrofit.

Hey, i have an A6 1998 with 1 din and i am planing to do the same nice job like your's. Please tell me this: do i have to buy another klima or i can use mine?? thank's a lot

I do the same conversion as your but at the moment I struggling a little bit. I cannot put the gear cover plate back in the place.
Do you know the way to put it back and How you do that?
Do I need to trim or change this plate or outside center console unit?

In the conversion I change
1. from 1din to 2 din bracket
2. Climate control unit
3. Ashtray

Do I need anything else in this conversion.

I did the same conversion as your. However, I cannot put the gear cover plate back into place. Do you have any suggestion how can I put the plate?

In the conversion i change
1. 1din to 2din cage
2 2din type climate control
3. 2din type ashtray.

there is just only a small clearance between ashtray and lower plate.
Do I need anything else or any part I missing for this conversion?

thanks very much for the post, I've followed the steps and installed my dvd navi now, it's just a similar nav as the original one http://www.cars-electronics.com/audi...een_p1309.html I will post some pictures later.
