How hard to fix LCD after shorting?

A buddy has a 7" LCD that he was trying to test at home and I guess he plugged a black (positive) power into a yellow molex and the red into the black molex from an atx psu. His atx power supply shut down and supposedly now he can't seem to power the lcd even with his original adapter. Did he blow it or is there an easy fix? How can it be tested?

Well, with out the model number of the display, it is impossible to know. However, the Lilli have a fuse on the contoller board, and I believe the Xenarcs do as well. He may have to try and find the fuse, and replace it. Also, he could have effed the display for good, no guarantee the fuse, if present, saved the display.

I think he said its a new vision or newision or something like that. He didn't give me a model number just that it's 7" widescreen and has a touchscreen. Is it difficult to check for fuses in an lcd or should that be left to professional repair

By the way, aren't the wires supposed to go the other way around or was he correct?

Depends on how handy you are with electronics. For me, not too hard, for you, maybe too hard, and for your friend, well, I would guess it is too hard because he shorted the thing, and because he had to ask the question, "Is there a fuse" I would have opened the damn thing up immediately and checked.

Thanks for your quick answer. I'll just tell him that it's no good and that he should give it me.

I am in the US. It is hard to say if you will be able to find schematics. You will have to search for the model number of the screen, and of the board to see.

And, I would fix it for myself

You can try contacting Armen at DigitalWW I know he fixes these types of things, though there might be other places. If not, Armen might be able to sell you a replacement controller card for not too much money.
