    using datalux controller

    I recently got a datalux 10.4" touchscreen. it's supposedly 200 nit, and it very well might be, but I thougt it would be brighter than it is. it's pretty hard to see durring the day.
    well my question is whether I could hook a different lcd and inverter up to the controller in the display unit and get a brighter display. I remember reading somewhere here that the allens controllers were just taken out of old datalux displays.
    Anyone have any experience putting a new lcd in a datalux display? and Ideas on how to make it better readable durring the day?

    thanks,
    NLC

    I would like to know the answer to this too. I need a controller and I can get a whole used 100 nit Datalux monitor for ~$100. The TFT I'm trying to control is a Sharp LQ104V1DG11.

    The datasheet is here:

    Can I use the Datalux controler w/ this TFT?

    Ice9 what model of Datalux monitor do you have? This is very interesting, as I too, would like more brightness out of my 200 nit Datalux...although tinting my windows fairly dark would probably work almost as well. I find that as long as its not terribly sunny out the monitor is perfectly bright enough, but otherwise its a little washed out.

    Just some info ->

    The datalux VGA to TFT controller card (in certain models) is the same as this boards 'allen rubble controller'. The controller will support different LCD's, if you do a search, you will find the LCDs that the controller is directly compatable with. By directly compatable, i mean you can use what is reffered to as a 1 to 1 (1:1) 31 pin hirose cable. I do not know about your specific sharp LCD, but the LCD's used in many of the datalux monitors are Sharps.

    As for the inverter, it must match the LCD. In other words, you cannot just hook up a different inverter to get more brightness. If you wish to get more brightness, I would suggest getting a 10.4" Sharp LCD from the list of 1:1 compatable displays (i believe the list is in a hirose cable group buy post in the classifieds), get the corresponding inverter, and install them in your datalux housing. I know that the controller card has an inverter connection, but not all inverters take the same power. You have to either make sure your inverter not only takes the same power (usually 5-9 volts), but you must also make sure they allow for brightness adjustments in the same way. Some just use potentimeters to varry the voltage, giving different brightness. Some use different methods, of which I am not exactly familar.

    In short, the datalux controller, depending on the model, can be hooked up to other LCDs. The native brand is the Sharp, and the hirose cable used to connect the controller and the LCD will be compatable with what we call on this board, 1:1 connections.

    Good luck.
    System in the works:
    Celeron 850 or PIII 933, SB Live! Value into a stock 4 channel amp, ATI vid, 10.4" sharp LCD w/ allen's controller, Elo SW touchscreen overlay and controller, GPS, TV tuner, FW DVD drive, 4 port serial card, and some other stuff....

    Loads of ideas.
