Things that seem to good to be true often are.

The problem with buying Lilliputs cheap in China are that if you have a dead pixel or a DOA screen, you will spend the difference in shipping sending it back. IF you can get them to service it.

Also, if you are getting ripped off, then you won't be able to do anything about it. Not that you can't if it's a USA deal too, but it'll cost you more to deal with it in China than it is worth.

actually its not bad, go ebay "Super 7" LCD"

the super screen goes for ~180USD and is supposed to be the same screen as the xeneracs.

Im considering that or dropping the money for the transreflective, but with the screen + computer i coulda goten a AVIC-N3 or something all together.

    Curious about VM7100 LCD TouchScreen

I too am pretty much finished the planning part of my CarPuter and have moved on to the buying stage. Right now I'm looking into the all-important screen. How well it works will make or break the whole setup.

Agniusm, I'm curious to hear if your VM7100 arrived from short-circuit and what are your impressions of it. The VM7100 is, in my research, the most common option on eBay for 8 inches and under. I see that your post was mid-October and by now you could have a good impression of how good it is for your purposes.

I've found it hard to find many real-world reviews of the VM7100 in carputer applications. i.e. Can you use it reliably in daylight? How is the sensitivity of the touchscreen? Do you HAVE to use the stylus or does it work with your finger? And I'm also curious if it works well/at all with XP Tablet Edition for things like handwriting recognition.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

It seems to be the same as one sold by Armen:

I just got one. Came up fine. Drivers from CD seems to work OK too. I did not even calibrate it. You can use stylus. Finger woeks too. The resolution I run it is 800x600.

The brightness is similar to one of the latest laptops. Although I wish it was brighter. Colors are good.

Quality is OK. Not sure how long it will last in the car. Will see.

    Issues:
    1. The touch screen does not cover 100% of the area. It is ~2mm short at the top. Still not a big deal.
    2. Takes about 6-7 sec to come up. First I thought it was DOA.
    3. There is only one audio IN and two (switchable video).

Overall impressions - good. I was expecting it to be much worse given there is no much competition in this area.

I have one. No issues with it. I had to RMA it the first time, but the issue was my video card's setting and not the monitor.
