Heres a better quality pic
I have already emailed Armen at DWW about this, but I figured some of you may be experiencing the same issues.
I have received replacement gears from Armen and i have replaced the one that had been damaged. It seems to have resolved the issue of the gear slipping.
However, i still have 2 other problems.
1. After extending the screen, it appears that it does not know how far it is tilted, because when it is completely open (fully tilted) and i press the eject/close button, it will tilt only a small portion down and then attempt to retract. Ofcourse since the screen is still tilted, it can not retract and it jams itself. I don't believe this is a mechanical error but perhaps something in the firmware.
2. When i had opened the case, i had found a gear which appears to have come off of somewhere. It was just sitting loose in the chasis. The attachment is a picture of both sides of the gear.

the problem come from this.
screen position is detected by a rotary resistor (dont know how it is bame exactly in english) with 3 wires. the risistance value of this composant change with the position of the screen. it looks like a gear on a litle PCB.
the gear you show on picture should ‘‘make the rotary resistor‘‘ turn.
So i thing you have to put it in the initial position.
the problem is to know how.
Ok, good, so the phantom gear is causing the issue with the screen position. I guess i will crack it open and take another look.
BTW, i got a response from Armen in like 30 minutes, that guy is great. He suggested manually pushing the screen in and then powering it on.
It'd be nice if there were somesort of "reset" switch to clear its memory so that it knows its own position.

Ok, so it appears the that gear is part of the "Rotary Resistor" and it just snapped back into place. Problem is, yep, i don't know at which position it shoud be at. There is a small tab on the gear that i can use for a reference, as of right now:
I pushed the eject button, and the thing opens up fully and tilts all the way up.... BUT when i press eject, it tilts down flat and does nothing. I hear the gears turning, but it does not retract. I cycled to power and immediatly when power is put back on, the gears turn but nothing moves. I tried manually pushing it (gently) back inside the chasis but the thing still will not react, gears turn and no movement.
Anyways, i'm gonna crack it open again, maybe tomorrow and take another look.

It needs to be in the correct position to work properly,
From memory…. I believe the gear has to be set at 3 ohms when the screen is completely retracted and before it starts to rotate up.
My solution was to mark the top of the tooth with a sharpy, and scratch on the side of the potentiometer with a xacto a “match to line “ so if I need to get back into the unit it is not hard to find correct positioning.
The thing about the unit is at the higher angles, the potentiometer doesn’t seem to register as well, and doesn’t seem to stop the screen at the desired “memory”
Anyone deal with this issue and have a fix?
OK, so i got the gear set corectly, THIS IS WHERE TO SET IT.
When the screen is flat (not tilted up at all) set the Rotary Resistor gear so that the part circled in red (see attachment) is facing the cylindrical gear and the longer raised part (running along the diameter of the gear) is running perpendicular to the chasis. The illustration might make more sense.

Good you got it running, did you check the resistance at position while you were in there? I am pretty sure it was at 3 ohms when I took it apart, but I didn’t write it down so I cant be sure.
Did you determine why it popped off the pot so you don’t have to repededly get back into it? It appeared from the grainy pics that the mechanical latching tab was slightly bent, but couldn’t be sure with the pics.
Could I ask if you have the problem I described about position?
Mine seems to work at all the positions but the one I like to keep it on, consequently the thing flips up runs on the clutch for a sec or two, then I have to wait for it to post, then flip it one position out where I like it.
