Motorized vs In-dash mount screens. What do you have?

Mine is a Lilliput 809GL that I have in my 95 neon, it is fiberglass mounted to the dash piece, the dash piece has 4 clips that hold it in place. The screen is "detachable" in the sense you just pull on it and pop the 2 lilli wires out the bottom and it comes in with you. All the stuff in the trunk is nearly impossible to get out.

I never liked the motorized ones

Motorized ones are for people who have no room to put a molded 7" screen. If you have the room, then there is no excuse!

Besides, they always stop "flipping" up so they become useless.

Motorized will break eventually. Even good car audio companies like Alpine still have problems. If there isn't room to put a non-motorized then make room.

Both of you have the same idea as I thought, and even if you DONT have room for a 7", you can make it work one way or another if you are determined. I thought the motorized ones had problems, and when they are cold they are really slow. The onyl bonus I see from them is when they fold in it looks like its a hu with a removed faceplate, so usually its not a way to grab attention. Mine is detachable but I imagine most arent (indash)

when I built my truck I wanted a hybrid system, a full aftermarket high end multimedia setup and a carpc...

at the time, alpine did not make a flush mount headunit... there only then new touchscreen unit, was a motorized screen....

I hate motorized so much, that I took it out of the box & took it apart & custom flush mounted it anyway... leaving it motorized was just not an option for me... I think motorized flip out screens suck, I mean they can never look "OEM", & to me, they just don't look good... there almost always covering something & rarely sit at the right angle, & this is assuming it works perfectly, which they just never last....

even the best alpines do develop issues if they go in & out several times a day for a year or a year & a half... there just too delicate & look cheap... like it didn't fit, but you wanted it anyway.... I just really don't like them....

now a popup screen, or custom motorized hiding screen can be a different story, if done nice that can be awsome... but the retractable folding standard setups suck to me...

Pop up would be cool, but maybe a little overbored. And Im sure it would be very difficult to look OEM. Im trying to be CLOSE to OEM look on my neon, but I never said I was a top notch fabricator. I know ill be able to do it, and I know itll be able to work and look cool. Its just some of you guys have some crazy fab skills
