yeah i dont see why not
you coul get two winamps running 2 remotes
and that plugin that lets you fade in and out and min tracks in ya car too
but you would need like sound blaster live or two cheep sound cards
OK, I have a lcd display in my car and I am running LC Display plug-in v0.5pre on LPT2. If I put another parallel port card in my computer and set it to LPT1, could I run another HD44780 LCD off of it with a vis plugin set to LPT1, say LCDdrv_vis. Thanks

Shouldnt be so difficult as long as the lcd isn't a 4x40. Imagine the two lcd's to be a 4x40. Find a 4x40 connection diagram. The 4x40 has 2 E lines (enable). Connect both displays to the same parallell port but only one E on each display.
If you get my drift![]()
Christian...
Currently missing ATX DCDC power & LCD stuff =)
Done a search, and this is pretty much the closest to the thread i was looking for (over a year old, mind!) - but i'm still a bit unsure about a few things:
Basically, I got 2 2x16 displays a couple of days ago, and also want to wire then up both to one parallel port, like All4Norway describes (unfortunately, i'm not 100% sure if i got his drift). I've successfully managed to get one working on it's own, diagram here . Anyway, I also found the 40x4 diagram here . Im fine with wiring up the power, but i`m still a bit confused when wiring up the signal wires. It's pretty confusing trying to even describe it, but here goes:
I'm assuming that i need to wire the signal wires to both lcd in parallel (eg, wire parallel port pin 7 to D0 on both lcd's, pin 8 to D1 on both lcd's, etc. thru to pin 14 to D7). Is this correct? I cant really think of any other way to do it.
I then leave pin 1 of the parallel port connected to the E (enable) on the first LCD (lcd pin 6). Do I then connect parallel port pin 17 to the E line on the 2nd lcd? (on the 40x4 diagram, parallel port pin 17 is connected to E2 on the 40x4).
As i said before, i'm not 100% sure if this is gonna work.... Guess i'm trying to connect 2 parallel lcd's in parallel here. Please Help!
Oh, and happy christmas everyone! May santa brings everyone a nice shiny new xenarc!
When you want to use 2 lcd on diverend lpt it is posible.
1 lcd on lpt 1 and another on lpt2 no problem.
But if you want to use 2 vis_dll in winamp it is not posible unless u use mux plugin. it can run op to 8 diverend vis. plugins whitin winamp.
here's the link to mux read and you know.

Let me know when it works or not.
I have a 2x16,4x20 and a 4x40 to test.
works for me with a 4x40 with WinLCD from nathan stuart and vis_satan from Mike lynch.

unfortunately, i only have one parallel port in my system, and i`m also using a DOS player (mpxf + mpxplay), so i need to wire both lcd's to one parallel port (i think it`s possible judgeing by all4norway's post). thanx for the suggestion, anyway... might be an option in the future.
If I get bored tomorrow (boxing day), then i`m gonna wire it up like i described, and post the results here. hopefully its gonna be "woohoo, it works" as opposed to "i fried both lcds and my parallel port and my motherboard and my brain", but hey... worst case scenario.
Just trawling thru google at the moment, i can't find anyone that's done it before, as most of the HD44780 related stuff seems to be programming as opposed to wiring...
hey, i`ll test it on a 486, just in case.![]()
Yup, you can run two HD44780 controllers off one parallel port as per the way you had posted earlier, and yup you run all the signal wires in parallel to the two controllers.
The E1 / E2 is a toggle to enable / disable reads off the signal lines, and you alternate them to write to the two LCDs.
The only drawback with doing this is that your LCD can't update as fast, although most people will never have to worry about that as they're not writing the software.
Oh yeah, it's quite hard to blow up the LCD controller using the parallel port anyway, because the currents from the signal lines're pretty low. The only thing you have to be extra careful about is not overcurrenting the device from the 5V supply! So don't forget to wire up that 10k pot!
YAY! Thanx for the reply starfox, that exactly what i was wanting to hear. The software i`m using support 4 line lcd's, so i think it will take care of that alternate writing stuff for me.
Also, cheers for the 10k pot reminder! I've currently got it wired straight, but i'm gonna put in a 10k and a 100k pots as soon as i've found/bought 'em.
Thanx again!
Thanx, i just got 'em going! I tried it in winamp, and it works perfectly. The 2nd display acts as lines 3 and 4. Still only one display working with mpxf in DOS tho...
Still, i think i just need play with the software a bit (damn ini files).
Now all i gotta do is mount them in the car. I can post pix if anyone wants to see 'em?
