Question Lots of questions about K301!

    Hi all,

    Basically I just got myself a K301

Touch screen works perfectly, VGA is alright with 800x480 (but NOT native) on an M10000 with modded BIOS. Sliding and tilting mechanism is a bit ropey but it works.

However... I have a few questions mainly due to the EXTREMELY poorly written manual!

    1. What does the "Remote" wire do? It is not for switching on an external amp (votage too low), it is not for switching on itself from an external source (ignition live does that), and the manual is helpless. So what is this?

    2. What does the "Park" wire do? According to the rubbish manual, it seems like I need to wire this up to the earth of the handbrake switch, but what for?

    3. The "Reverse" wire... according to the gay manual, it is supposed to be wired to the earth of the reverse light... but my reverse lights are 12v-switched, not earth-switched! (I.e. they are permenantly earthed) Any idea where else I can wire this up please? Because I'd love to use a reverse camera.

    4. It remembers picture settings (brightness, contrast, etc), but it does not remember picture position, and I have to do auto-config everytime Is there any mods that can sort this out? Also how come whenever it slides out, it goes to AV2 (which is not connected) instead of VGA?

    5. This is the killer question... has anyone managed to get native resolution on this screen yet?! And yes I've read all the threads to do with 800x480, and I got 800x480 right in front of me, but it is definitely not native. And I am sort of convinced that the native resolution of this screen might not be 800x480, it might be 768x480.

Overall it works but not very well. Has anyone got any experience to share?

    Many thanks!

The remote wire is for a remote for an accessory like a sound card remote or somethign like that. You can use the sensor that is in the unit and hook that wire up to whatever is being controlled so you only have to point the IR remote right at the monitor. parking Brake wire is so that you can see the AV1 and 2 while the car is not moving if hooked up to the parking brake correctly. otherwise ground it and you can watch the AV in all the time. The reverse is to trigger the reverse cam input. when wired to the reverse lights it shows the Reverse input for a camera.

    Thank you for your reply.

So do you know if the Reverse wire is triggered on 12v or on ground?

    Thanks.

I dont know if that is true or not but I just got my k301 about 2 months ago and just wired my reverse camera to it. That reverse wire on the back takes in a 12v signal. Once the k301 detects the 12v signal, it automatically switches to the camera input. I tapped into the positive wire on the reverse lights and ran the cable to the front where I wired in to the reverse wire on the k301. And now, every time I put the truck in reverse, it automatically switches to the camera. Its great. And for the parking cable, all I did was just grounded it along with the regular black grounded cable. He is correct, it is grounded to that you can switch to av1 or av2 while the car is parked but if you just ground it, you can switch to any video input while the car is on motion

don't be afraid!!! really either way you can hook up a RELAY and make it switch to whatever you want.. it is ok either way tell me if you run into any problems.. grounding the park cable is illegal in some countries as you are not allowed to view AV while on the move!!! but I am an outlaw myself I grounded it!!!
