I emailed lilliput about directly connected to car's 12v

I emailed lilliput about directly connecting my 10.4" Lilliput monitor to my car's 12v(14v when running) source although the monitor is rated 11v-13v. They told me it would be perfectly safe to do so. Although i have heard on here that it can decrease the life of the monitor. I was just wondering what you guys thought about this? Will connecting it directly to my car's 12v source lower the life of the monitor? Are there any other drawbacks to connecting the monitor directly to my car's 12v source? Thanks for your input.

suggest to add a stablizer circuit. it is normal 14V but who know it can jump up to 16 or even 19.

You should use a regulator filter out the dips and the spikes and that will output a nice clean 12v. I suggest: http://store.mp3car.com/ProductDetai...Code=PWR%2D025

alrite cool thanks.. yeah i think i would rather be safe than have to spend another 300$ on a new screen..

i think im gonna get the Carnetix P1900 and use the primary output at 19v to charge my laptop(the ac adapter says 19v on the side so i would use 19v right?) and use the secondary output at 12v to run my monitor.. That should work ok right?? just want to double chekc before i drop another 100$ into the pc.. Thanks..

If that is what the P1900 puts out, and assuming it has enough amperage on both rails for your laptop and the monitor, that should work. Just confirm that the 1900 puts out enough amperage.

err i think the cig lighter (lilliput's) comes with a little egg shaped circuit that is supposed to regulate the power.

What I did was use my power supply and cut off the egg shaped circuit as my dsatx power supply was regulating the voltage. Here is a diagram + thread.

yeah im hoping it should be enough.. the lilliput website says 10w for the monitor so that plus my laptop 19v x 4.7a =89.3w... so 99.3 watts total right? and the p1900 is rated at 140 watts...

one last question.. the ac adapter on my laptop acutally shows 19.5v i just noticed... do you think that giving it 19 v would be sufficient?? ive seen some automotive chargers for this laptop state they give out 18-20w so im assuming giving it 19w should be enough?? i just wanted to clarify.. im probably going to hook it up to the dc power supply i have in my room and set it to 19v and see how the laptop responds.. Thanks for all the information everyone!! its been a great help.
