two VGA LCD's, both cost less than $500

Well, thanks to kgoode80 and his find of the Xenarc 7" LCD, I now have two choices in VGA LCD's that cost under $500.

I couldn't find anything on the net about the Xenarc LCD. Heck, I couldn't even find anything about the company Xenarc. The only thing I found was another on-line store that sold the screen for $450.

I've been waiting for Action Electronics to import their 10.4" VGA LCD to the US and they've finally delivered the first lot. The MSRP is $499 and I think I've found a place that might be able to order it for me. Here are the specs on the screen: http://www.action.com.tw/Detail/dlcd104.htm

I'm going to mold the LCD into my dash the the LCD would be removed from whatever plastic casing it comes with. Which one do you think is the better screen? They're both 18bit color and they both do 640x480 resolution. The Action LCD is quite a bit larger though which is a big plus (I can fit a 9" wide screen no problem). Help me decide!

The specs to the 7" display (found on the link to Mobile Excitement) as well as the company URL to Xenarc are still at this thread.

It's really whatever you prefer. The non-widescreen is probably better for computer use, if you think you can fit that in your dash

There isn't exactly a site where you can order it from. American Action Inc. told me that the first company to take delivery of their LDC is a company called "Barjan Products." So I called them up and evidently they are a distributor of assorted nick-nacks to truck stops and car washes...go figure. Anyway, I talked to a person in customer service and she assured me that they do have the LCD for sale, but I would have to order it thru one of their customers since they don't sell to end users. So, to make a long winded story just a bit longer, call up Barjan Products (309)756-4546 and ask them to point you to the closest place that sells their products. I live in Fremont, California and the closest place that sells their stuff is all the way up in Sacramento.

Oh yea, if you look at the specs for the 10" LCD, the width is 211mm=8.3". The center console my Celica is 9.5" wide, so I can fit the LCD in there no problem.

Here are two pictures of my interior.

My stock stereo is a double din so I was planning on removing the stock stereo and putting the LCD in its place. There's a small compartment above the stereo and I'm planning on moving an aftermarket single din stereo there...or I might just ditch the stereo altogether since I wouldn't really need it if I hook up an amp.

Hey Fourgig, how did you get the keyboard in the visor like that? I originally wanted that kinda setup but opted for a keyboard/mouse combo.

I am calling places about the Xenarc monitor today...ya'll think its worth 500.00? I can't live with fuzzy text on my GPS maps. I think its a good deal.

I bought a mini keyboard that has the short travel notebook keys on it. Took it out of the case, then hacked up the visor to make it fit. Then I used a lot of epoxy to make the keyboard stay in place.

It looks ghetto if you examine it but most people don't seem to see that it's a hack job.

How do you use that keyboard? Seriously, I don't know much about this stuff but does it pull down?
