    Character LCD - RIP

    Well its looks like my 40x2 Character LCD i bought of Magnetik has gone to the place where LCD's go when they die. STUPID ME!.

    I believe i have rosted it, because the first time i wired it up, i really stuffed up, and amongst other things, had the +5v and gnd crossed. The chips got exceptionally hot, and the display didn't work.I used some header pins on the LCD board, and connected a ribon cable with an normal header block to it, then i soldered the individual ribons to the corresponding cables on my printer cable. I just assumed that the ribon on the far left was pin 1, the one next to it pin 2 etc. But as i found out the next day (when i found my multimeter) that that is not the case. And now the display doesn't work. Its actually like:

    ==== pin 2
    ==== pin 1
    ==== pin 4
    ==== pin 3
    ==== pin 6
    etc..

    I'm now in the market for another LCD, any one got one going cheap??

    yeah, I got a real cheap one, only missing one thing, the smoke inside came out.... other than that it is good to go.....

    don't ya hate it when that happens... Buy stuff at Fry's (assuming there is one in you area) they have a very liberal return policy

    Thanks for the offer, but I think i'd prefer one with the smoke still inside the chips, not released
