The screen doesn't have VGA input...
If you have the means of outputting video through composite and don't care about the poor-quality display that offers, then knock yourself out.
Now there's probably something terribly wrong with my reasoning here, so I'm asking the experienced people because this just seems to good to be true..
$100 Xenarc 700V
$100 7" Touchscreen kit
A $200 Xenarc touchscreen monitor?
I don't care if I have to remove the housing to install the touchscreen, I am going to have to take the housing off to install the monitor in my dash anyway..
Oops you are right! What about a Xenarc 700Y? It has VGA and I see one on eBay.. The specs of the screens are the same.. I just wonder if that touchscreen add-on is any good..
Though I'd have to pick up a 700Y under 200 to make it worth it since the going rate for second hand 700Ts seems to be ~300..
I was looking to go this method also I saw the price of 89 bucks for the screen and I was like wow. And then it turns out that it wasn't TS and I was told that is not worth it to turn that one TS.
Yea you know they're really gouging you when they charge nearly $200 more just for a VGA plug :-/ (compared to the 700Y which has VGA [no touchscreen] and costs anywhere from $275 to $300)..
The addition of a VGA connector requires a new LCD controller or at least a modified one, but that's it.. This entire monitor costs $100 and even it has a controller with VGA input, so we know a LCD controller can't be the reason for the 700Y's $200 price hike over the 700V! And that's the only difference in hardware there is..
It's a complete price gouge, and I'm still willing to pay to play, but I'm not going to trick myself into thinking that I'm getting a good deal.
