    Motorized Lilliput Gears

Hey, I seem to have a problem with my 7" Lilliput Touchscreen motorized indash monitor.

It all started when I turned the ignition and allowed the screen to come out the first part (straight out), and then I just heard motors wurring away, and the screen started beeping.

I took it out the dash and took the screen apart and 2 of the plastic cogs have broken, one on the motor has split down the middle, and another connecting to the metal gear on the actual screen has just been stripped.

What can I do about this? it's really frustrating as it's not that old and it didn't hit anything.

Does lilliput or anyone else sell these parts? The screen's not got a warentee.

    Thanks,

    Russell

I had the same problem 2 times.
I have repair it myself both times (it is not an easy job).

Plastic grears on 2 motors are very sensitive.
They don't stick on side of the box (like all the others)
These 2 gears they are not sticked on the axle.

**** SO NEVER NEVER OIL THEM !!!!! ****
They will leave their possition more easy.

First failed the plastic gear that moves out the screen.
After a week it broke the other (that moves the screen up)

I suggest you to send unit to where you bought it
(I coudn't wait posts Athens to HongKong vice versa plus fix time).

Don't operate the unit, as you may do more damage.
If you decide to repair it yourself, glue the gear on other motor too.

    For all the others:

DO NOT GREASE THE GEARS YOU SEE ON MOTORIZED LILLIPUT.
This way gears may last a little bit longer.

I'll have pics with broken gears uploaded when I'll go home.

Sorry I just noticed that you have allready open the box.

I have glue them with instant glue.

Use sand paper on sides gear is broken (it will stic easier).
Glue it and tight it with a plastic stripe tight.

Now check that gear works fine:
Remove film cable to main unit to avoid damages (electrical and mechanicals).
Put 5-6V on motor with the glue gear and check if it moves fine.
If not, most possible there is glue between 2 dents (where gear broke).
    Remove glue with file.
Gear must move easy and without any abnormal move (or it will break again soon)

When gear looks fine glue gear on axle too.
It is a good idea to glue the other motors gear on axle too.

I hope everything will go fine like in my case.

If you'll find a place to buy the gears , I'm interested too (to have them as parts). Metal ones will be better.

Metal, mine does not have metal gears.
    I'll upload photos soon

When did you buy the unit?
Mine shipped from HK on 21 Jul 2006.
They may have try to improve gears since then.
But the main issue is that they don't stick gears on axles.

Please check in photo that gear has move from the original place it was,
and so gear it was easy to break after that.

It has not any metal gear too.
Can we find them? (they have to be all metal then)
