    Damaged Liliput Monitor

I purchased on ebay a Lilliput GL701-NP/C/T 7" in dash monitor. It will be a while before I install it in my car so I tested the device with a DC power supply. It seems to work great except you have to give the screen a little push for it to open all the way. The screen will open horizontally without a problem, but for it to lift up vertically you have to tap it a little bit. The motor is also pretty loud and seems a little bit sluggish.

I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems with the lilliput in-dash monitor? Also does anyone think that it would be worth voiding the warranty (if there even is one) and opening it up.

Thank you all very much for your help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a video link to you-tube to demonstrate what I am talking about.

the gears often go bad on the indash screens. If you got a realy good deal on it, I would say go ahead and fix it. If you paid retail, on the other hand, I would return and get a different one (since it's obiously been used before).

I think I got a good deal. I spent $300 on a "new" monitor. Am I a sucker, or is that a good deal?

More importantly has anyone had experience with opening these and/or replacing gears? I was hoping people would suggest that there might some sort of bad alignment or something blocking the gear. Basically something that would be easier to fix then replacing a gear.

I can't imagine why the gear would lose contact or would need a push to move. From the video does anyone have any ideas on the cause/corrective action for the screen not moving?

    Motorized Lilliput Gears

Maybe that thread will help you out. Those monitors run ~400-425, so I would say it's worth fixing. Post some pics once you have it open and we can help you some more.

I finally got a chance to open the case this weekend. I was very unsucessful at taking pictures or diagnosing any sort of problem. None of the gears appeared split or broken and due to the length of the ribbon cable I was unable to test the screen with the case open. Has anyone had any experience taking these apart?

How do I remove the ribbon without breaking it (I haven't had good experiences with ribbons in the past)? Will the screen even move without the ribbon connected? Thank you everyone for any advice you can offer.
