    Dead Lilliput?

I started my car today and my 7" lilliput never came up. As soon as I got home I pulled it out to see what the trouble was.

The unit turns on (all the lights on the control bar come up), but nothing on the display. After a moment all the lights on the control bar turn off. I'm not sure if that is normal or if that means it's shutting down automatically because there is no load. Are the blue lights supposed to stay on?

I believe the model of my screen is 629GL-70NP.

I pulled the unit out of my car and took it inside. I thought the backlight was out, and I happen to have another scree/backlight laying around so I hooked it up and still got nothing. This leads me to believe maybe it's a board problem.

Has this happened to anyone else, or do you guys know what might be wrong with it? I searched around a bit and couldn't find anyone having the same problem (where it didn't turn out to be the backlight). Then again, vbulletin search kinda sucks.

    thanks in advance.

If it turns off after a bit, I think that is because there is no video input. Plug it into another computer, or plug another source into it and see what happens.

    Thanks for your speedy reply.

On your recommendation I tried another source, but with the same results. It must be a problem with the board. On inspection I don't see any bad caps or anything, but then again I don't know a whole lot about electronics.

When you tried a different source, did you try different resolutions and refresh rates?

My monitor's 800x600 resolution blew randomly one day (And I have the equivalent lilliput as you have, just rebranded). I changed to 1024x768 and all has been well since.

Also, check the ribbon cables. Has one come out of its socket?

Ribbon cables and everything look fine.

Even without a display hooked up, I should be able to turn on the screen, see the backlight come on, and see "PC" or "RCA" up in the corner if I switch the input with the remote control. I am seeing nothing at all.

That being said, there's no way I can actually check what resolution is being pushed to it. When I've sent wrong resolutions before I get an "put of range" message on the screen. OS X puts the configuration screen for the second monitor ON the second monitor, which is why I can't see it.

Last night I redid my entire screen and when I put it all back together I was like WTF?!

I forgot to plug in the little 2 pin inverter plug!

And exactly as you describe, everything but no picture. I could tell the buttons were responding because they were cycling the correct colours depending on which input.

I would check the backlight at this point.

    Sorry I don't understand.

Is the inverter board on the main circuit board somewhere, or when you say inverter board are you referring to the main circuit board?

I did try two different screen/backlight units with the same results.

the inverter part is the one that ends with 2 thick wires. They are high power wires to power the backlight. Those need to be connected to the screen too. As long as you have done that, then it should work. If it doesn't, then there is something wrong with your main board because it is all a single board.

Okay, I did some searching and found this thread:

    Blown CCFL Inverter

So I'm guessing my inverter is the big thing that says "dangerous voltage" on it. My board doesn't look like any of these, though. How can I test if that is the problem - I looked again for signs of burning or damage and it looks fine. If I got a separate inverter board like some of these people did, will it require soldering all the pins back to the mainboard somewhere, or just two wires (+/-) like in the picture towards the bottom of that thread.

One last question, should I choose to replace the inverter, how do I know which one to get?

Thanks again for all your help guys!

p.s. Where in Colorado do you live 2k1? I am from Arvada but live in Utah now.
