Question 2005 Toyota Avalon Climate Control Data LCD

Hi, I have a 2005 Toyota Avalon and i have a similar problem to some of the guys on the forums. I don't have the stock navigation but I have the JBL synthesis audio system and the stock DATA LCD which displays climate information and audio info from the stereo.
I was thinking of replacing it with a touch screen and using a CarPuter in my car. Is there anyway to use the touch screen and one of its AV sources to display the climate and audio information as well. So i can switch between the putter and the data info whenever i want to.

    Thanx

I'm sure that's not impossible, but maybe beyond the scope of an average hobbiest for sure... an engineer would be able to do it, but I'm sure it would take quite a bit of effort...

the best solution may be moving that screen down low & then putting a pc screen where it was... seen this done a few times with good results.. good luck with it

My initial plan was to move it down below but there is not much space below the JBL radio, and would require me to cut some of the console, which i don't want to do, and also i'll loose my storage compartment(which is no big deal).
Well my question is, isn't the LCD just used to display information? I have read around on this, and different forums, and it is prolly using a RGB 15Mhz output, so is there anyway to convert it to component or s-video and output it on the lilliput?
Correct me if i am wrong.

    Thanx.

No, you can't change the screen to make it a touchscreen. You can put it in, but the Avalon software used on the hard drive is different from the touchscreen versions of Toyota's Nav System (which is also unchangeable). You might be able to take this up with a Toyota technician, since this is not too new (2005.. been around a few years).

I understand you though! I don't like the way Avalon's system works either
