And if a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump it's *** when it hopped.
Rather than say "this would be nice:, figure out a way to do it... Or pay someone else to figure it out...
This would be nice... if it was touchscreen and VGA... wonder if they can do that, or offer it without screen (for less money)...

Motorized breaks, unless you can get the stock nav piece and switch out the screen. I prefer non-motorized. I am sure you could rip the screen guts out and swap it for a lilliput or xenerac if you are handy.
Otherwise, head over to www.mazda6club.com forums. There are a few people who have successfully built their own motorized computer screens.
Cool find though. I just want the piece without the screen. Mazda won't sell it without the Nav.
System always under construction
Mazda motorized can break too. motorized is motorized... the only real difference will come down to tolerance/quality control.
My point about "if" is that if it isn't sold without screen for less or with a VGA controller/touchscreen, why bother with it at $400? You can get the Mazda OEM retractable (non-motorized) nav tray for aftermarket screens (JDM item) for $300 imported (japanparts.com or mazdaparts.com) without screen. OEM fit and finish, and your choice of screen since it doesn't come with one. Although I do prefer the look of this piece (at least in the pics) over the Mazda item.
Of course OEM motorized nav dash panel is my first choice, but they aren't easy to find, nor cheap. Don't worry about Mazda selling them or not... check with junk yards/salvage places.
As an alternative... this may be worth looking into... options for screens or no screens, etc...
BTW... I am on mazda6club.com... that's where I got the link for this item from China.
Sorry, sometimes people don't know there are forums for specific cars. I referred people to there before. I agree it would be nice if someone offered just the housing replacement for the map pocket. I haven't seen one available anywhere.
BTW, unless I am blind I don't see a mazda6 nav tray on mazdaparts.com or japanparts.com. If it was there I would have bought one a long time ago. and last I checked, the dealer only will sell the whole navigation package. If I am wrong point me in the right direction. All I found was this:
http://www.mazdaparts.com/ProductDet...000-1155120408 which is for a mazda3 or RX-8...I can't tell.
System always under construction
You live in the land o reagan? wow....
Anyway. You might try a salvage yard.
That's for the RX-8. That was my doing. I found it (and one for the 3 and 6) in the JDM accessories catalogs online (available on the JDM mazda site). Started a thread on it in RX8club.com and Mazdaparts.com picked it up. I suggested that they also try for the Mazda 3 and 6 communities, but it seems like they slacked off on it.
They are pretty willing to get you whatever you want. They have a contact at a dealer in Japan to source the parts and regularly get shipments of stuff. So just shoot them an email about it. Probably a good idea to mention about how you would have bought it a long time ago if it had been on their site.. hopefully that'll get them to regularly carry it.
No biggie about the car forum thing... just a fyi kinda thing. Actually my post count here might be low (usually lurking), but on the car specific forums...

I'm coordinating a common project in several forums in USA and Europe.
We have now a chinesse company working in a motorised model with Lilliput VGA touchscreen.
Now we are 35 people interested around the world.
If anyone is interested please post here and we'll organize.
This is my unit:
