You were talking about GTK : then it has nothing related to openGL.
GTK uses gtk_drawing_area for map rendering. OpenGL is used only with the Cegui Gui.

That's also our mind. Currently, we don't think there's another gps navigation software with as much features as navit (implemented, or planned).

Hi,

I had it running on Gentoo and it looked like it grabbed the default mapset for a small area around Germany, so it should be OpenStreetMaps. When running it, I just typed navit and it automatically loaded a map and looked like a regular GPS program. I rebuilt it without sdl so it turned off the cegui, but I still have the problem when clicking on destination. I'll try to check out the IRC channel. Would you mind if I created a project at maemo for this so it has another home? The project would reach more people and would probably help to get the installation optimized for maemo users.

Ok, so yes it's OSM. And there is currently a problem with search and OSM. M&G search works. You can try routing from gtk by setting the vehicle type to demo:// instead of gpsd://localhost, then right clicking, setting your position, right clicking somewhere else and setting a destination. And watch the magic

I've installed version 0.0.4 for a while now. Are there any news or updates on navit? I coudn't find any new version. I'm missing the address search function for the osm maps. Can anyone help me to get speech running. I don't know how to do that.

Hi NFSC. Next release will be 0.1, and there is much work to do. But you can try the svn version if you want, which includes a lot of improvements versus 0.0.4.
(see http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Download_NavIt section SVN). If you have troubles using svn, i was planning to put a daily snapshot on our webserver. Just ask.

Search in OSM now works, with some constraints : your maps have to include the is_in tag for cities (maps from germany, netherlands or australia have been reported to work for example). About speech, you can try the following setting in navit.xml :

Of course, replace en with your language. You can try and tune the speech output from a console, then use it in navit. If you need help, just ask.

Just a question: we would like to use Navit as the navigation par of our front end (instead of custom engine we have now). To do this, we will have to make a few changes and especially use our own GUI, consistent with the rest of our app.

I have downloaded the sources, but there does not seem to be any developer documentation whatsoever, not even commented headers. Am I just missing something, or is what I have all there is so will we have to go thru the source code and analyze it piece-by-piece to to figure out how navit actually works and to be able to integrate it?

Sorry for the late response. I installed the deb package from 20080521 on my desktop pc for testing. Street-search on OSM doesn't work on Germany or Ausrtrian maps. I can't confirm that it works. How can I check the is_in tag? Another thing that I noticed is when entering a zip-Code navit crashes by entering the second number.
Another question I have is for speech output. What exactly do I need from mbrola? I don't have it running on my PC.

Hi Jirka. My apologies for the late reply, but i don't think i got a mail notifying me of a new reply.. I'll have to check my spam filter maybe.

About documentation, it's indeed a little poor currently. The best thing to do would be to drop by on our IRC channel on freenode, #navit. There, try to catch me, cp15 or Horwitz. Or mail me, at your convenience.

Using your own gui on top of navit isn't a problem : navit is modular, and guis are really flexible.

Hi NFSC.

Search in OSMhas been reported to work in Germany, at least (it works flawlessly in M&G). You have to search is this particular order : country -> town -> street. Have you tried searching without the postal code?

To confirm you have the tag, you can grep in the .osm file. Currently, it's best to try to stick with svn, as the code is updated daily (we had 35 write transactions in the last 7 days! http://sourceforge.net/project/stats...navit&type=svn ) there's currently 14 active developers working on navit.. It's quite active

We currently don't have a release date for 0.1.0, because we still have a lot of things to fix/implement : http://trac.navit-project.org/milestone/version%200.1.0

Some of theses tickets are close to be closed, but don't expect 0.1.0 before a few weeks.

About mbrola, i can't help you much.. But if you want it to speak German, we have a lot of users from Germany in the channel. They can probably help you better that i do with this issue.
