Adobe air on linux
Iv been browsing around, and have heard little bits about adobe porting air to linux. Just curious to whether anyone has experimented with it. Though iv been a little busy lately and havnt tried it... i had come across natedawgg's thread,
claiming that it works on all os's. though it appears not to have been tested in linux yet. Has anyone tried this app? or any other air apps?
I just tried, actually it seems to be really cool runtime. I didn't test it's performance, but I like it so far. First real cross-platform runtime with small footprint. I'm downloading SDK, and some tutorials. We'll see how well it performs, but I like it already :)
I've actually already implemented a flex version of an mp3 player. It has basic libarary functions, spectrum visualization, normal controls, and song title/artist/time stuff. It is designed around a 7inch screen. Buttons are large, controls are simple, and everything is around the idea of not crashing your car while picking music.
I also am developing a ham radio control software as well.
I proffesionally utilize flex in a large production environment (with a java backend service), and am fairly impressed with the software so far. The linux support is not as good as windows, but it is OK. The development environment only works on windows.
Sounds pretty well what you are doing. I don't know Adobe Air at all. But it sounds great. Do you have some screenshots of your work so that we can see what you are working on?
OK, I've got a few screen shots. Keep in mind that I am spending my time on getting a good touchscreen flow going, so I haven't done the styling yet. Just getting the basic controls in for now.
The cool thing about flex is that I have the ui file completely seperate from the actual code. So you could actually make the screen as different as you like, without changing the functionality.
Here is the main play screen:
This is the basic controls on the main screen:
Here is the artist library. Note that the buttons '\/' Moves one screen up/down. The '\\\///' button moves to the next/previous alphabet. The 'Play' button will add all artists and play. The buttons after the artist jumps to the individual songs for that artist.
Finally the song screen:
That shows the basics....
Yeah, I think flex is right choice here, I tried html, and it does work, but possibilities are very limited. It works though. I don't see it working as real car pc gui, mp3 player is rather easy to be implemented, but I have some worries when we come to video. I still prefer old good C.
