    Installing NavIt

    I have looked on all the wiki's about installing navit and each one leads me to faliure. I get errors in the configure step and I can't seem to get around it. Has any one seen a gotcha for the install of nav it on ubuntu?

    there is a guy on #navit (irc.freenode.com) that makes debs from the svn snapshots. That may help you get it installed and running.

    IMHO, navit is a pain to get up and going.

    Take a look at tangogps (google it). It's pretty nice, but needs more community and developer support to get it to the point where it's really useful.

    I sucessfully installed tango and it works awesome and installed quite well. From what I have played with it did not have turn by turn but its still good (better than uninstalled navit)

    @kev
    none of the guys on the irc could help me but that is a resource that i did not know about, thank you

    the only place that i have ever gone to to get deb files was Ubunutu's "getdeb.net" which seems to not be offline when i need it... grrr

    let me know how that works for you. i downloaded it last night and it froze up on me while downloading maps. im guessing once the maps are downloaded you no longer need the internet for it to work. that would be the only way i could use it seeing as i do not have internet in the car.
